(CNN) -- Police in Pasadena, California, issued an Amber Alert on Sunday for a missing 3-year-old boy. The child was reported missing Sunday morning by the boy's mother, police said in a news release. The boy, identified as Dylan Kurihara, was last seen with his father at 9:30 p.m. Saturday leaving a "parking structure" in a 2001 silver Lexus RX 300, the release said. Upon investigation, authorities discovered that the father was arrested an hour later Saturday night for public intoxication. "The father, identified as Joe Kurihara, does not recall being with the child due to his level of intoxication," police said. "He was on foot at the time of his arrest and officers did not know that he was in charge of the child." Authorities are scouring the area where the boy was last seen and are seeking the public's help in finding him. Dylan is described as 32 inches tall and weighing about 35 pounds with shoulder-length brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a blue and brown checked long-sleeve shirt and dark blue pants. Anyone with information about his whereabouts are urged to call the Pasadena Police Department at 626-744-4241. RE: CA Amber Alert...drunk daddy lost the baby? - Lady Cop - 10-18-2010 LA Times: Frantic search for missing boy, 3, in Pasadena Dylan Kurihara was last seen leaving a wedding with his father at 9:30 p.m. Saturday. His father, allegedly drunk, was arrested about 10:30 p.m. and told police hours later that he didn't remember the boy being with him. October 18, 2010 Dozens of police officers and volunteers were frantically combing Pasadena neighborhoods throughout a cold, wet Sunday night for a 3-year-old who was apparently lost by his allegedly intoxicated father. Dylan Kurihara is described as 2 feet 8, 35 pounds, with shoulder-length brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen leaving a wedding party with his father Saturday evening. The child was wearing a blue and brown checkered long-sleeve shirt and dark blue pants. Joe Kurihara, 23, of West Covina lost track of his son after leaving the party in Pasadena. He told police he had no memory of the boy being with him. "We're canvassing the area," said Janet Pope Givens, a spokeswoman for the Pasadena Police Department. "The 'knock and talk' is still going on." Witnesses, including the boy's mother, last saw the child with Kurihara at 9:30 p.m. on Saturday. The parents, described by police as an "on-again, off-again" unmarried couple, had been attending wedding festivities at a Masonic lodge. Father and son were seen leaving a parking structure at Cordova Avenue and Euclid Street in a 2001 Lexus RX 300. The four-door silver SUV, with license plate 4UHY191, also remains unaccounted for. The search for Dylan did not begin until Sunday morning, long after Pasadena police had arrested Kurihara about 10:35 p.m. Saturday. They found him walking alone near the 300 block of East Green Street, about a quarter-mile from the parking lot, Givens said. Officers did not know that the boy was supposed to be withhis father, and Kurihara, who is accused of resisting arrest, made no mention of it. When Dylan's mother didn't hear from Kurihara for hours, she began to call police stations and hospitals. She reached Pasadena police about 8 a.m. "We checked our records and found the father was arrested for public intoxication," said Cmdr. Darryl Qualls. Her call launched an intensive search. Dogs traced the boy's scent to the Rose Bowl Aquatic Center, about two miles from the parking garage, officials said. Investigators also returned to the scene with Kurihara in hopes that he could retrace his steps or jog his memory. That effort was futile, Givens said. Kurihara has two other recent arrests on record, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Baldwin Park police arrested him at 9 p.m. last Thursday for an unspecified misdemeanor charge and released him at 4:39 a.m. The same department had arrested him on another unspecified misdemeanor charge at 7:28 a.m. on Aug. 10, releasing him about three hours later. For each offense the bail amount was set at $1,155. Kurihara is currently being held at the Pasadena city jail in lieu of $10,000 bail on a charge of resisting arrest. "We want this search to go out as far and wide as possible," Givens said. "If somebody took the car with the kid in it, they could be in Vegas." Anyone with information is asked to contact Pasadena police at (626) 744-4241. RE: CA Amber Alert...drunk daddy lost the baby? - Lady Cop - 10-18-2010 good news! YAY! PASADENA ( KTLA) -- Authorities say a 3-year-old boy who was lost by his drunk father and found strapped into his car seat about 25 hours later in Pasadena has been placed in protective custody. Dylan Kurihara was found late Sunday night in a parking structure in the area of Madison Avenue and Green Street, just blocks away from where he was lost, according to the Pasadena Police Department. Rowdy Metzger, a Pasadena resident, saw and recognized the boy inside his father's missing silver 2001 Lexus four-door sedan and called authorities, said Pasadena Chief of Police Phillip L. Sanchez. Metzger told KTLA that he has a 3-year-old himself and wanted to help. "I think it's a parent's worst nightmare that something is going to happen to your child and no one is going to know where they're at," Metzger said. Metzger says he was walking past an open parking structure, saw the father's SUV and spotted the boy sleeping inside. "I tapped on the window, it woke him up. The door was open. I opened it. He got a little scared. I called out his name. I told him it was going to be okay," Metzger told KTLA. "I kept giving a thumb's up signal because I didn't know if he would understand me, if he was in shock or whatever. I called 911. I just talking to him until the police came," he added. The boy was a little dehydrated and covered in urine, but otherwise in good condition. He was taken to Huntington Memorial Hospital for evaluation and was later placed into protective custody, police said. The boy's grandmother, Marie Garcia, who had pleaded for Dylan's safe return when his fate was uncertain Sunday, told KTLA how relieved she was to know her grandson was safe. "We would love to thank everybody. God bless everybody! We thank the police and the dogs they've trained. We just thank God and that they found him well and safe," Garcia said. Dylan Kurihara and his father, 23-year-old Joe Kurihara, were last seen leaving a parking structure at Cordova Ave and Euclid St. in Pasadenaaround 9:30 p.m. Saturday. They had attended a wedding party at a Masonic Lodge along with the boy's mother. Dylan's father Joe was arrested an hour later while walking alone in the area of E. Cordova St. When police arrested Cordova, they were unaware that he was in charge of a child and Kurihara reportedly told police he did not remember being with Dylan because he was too drunk. Police were made aware of the missing child when his mother woke up at 8:00 a.m. Sunday, discovered him missing and called police. Joe Kurihara was being held on $10,000 bail on suspicion of felony child endangerment. RE: CA Amber Alert...drunk daddy lost the baby! - Cool Hand Liz - 10-23-2010 I have a 3 year old.
