Wildfire locally..not a usual event here - QueenBee - 04-12-2011

Up north of the city, near the lake, there has been a big brush fire burning since about 2:30 this afternoon. The lady I work for lives near there, a few miles from fire, and we saw the smoke pretty far off. When we got to her house, there was ash falling through the air...and we could smell the smoke..and as I said, she lives several miles away.
I drove by after leaving her house, and it was pretty big and intense then. It is 11PM now and fire is still burning,,they are going to keep it wet and just let it burn out. They said it is lucky the fire did not start yesterday, when we had 50 MPH winds.

wildfires have been raging out of control in Texas also.
i have seen monster wildfires in Florida in years past, burning homes down in an area where i lived, and causing mass evacuations.

it's a scary thing.
often just started by a lit ciggy butt thrown from a car window.

Well the good news is that the fire, though it burned over many acres of land, it did not hit any residential areas. Plus, we have had a steady rain since late last evening, pretty mucn snuffing out what was left of it.
