Jack the Ripper's horrific killing spree was probed by FBI experts in the 1980s, a new document has revealed.

But even agents from the U.S. elite crime-fighting unit could not solve the mystery of the Ripper's identity that has stumped both amateur and professional sleuths for more than a century.

A secret FBI dossier, which has just been declassified and made public, reveals how one of its acclaimed secret agents - and a pioneer of criminal profiling - attempted in vain to unmask the serial killer.

THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS! (link below)

The Met Police is fighting a legal battle to keep files detailing the investigation into the notorious Jack the Ripper case secret - to maintain confidentiality for Victorian 'supergrasses'.

The documents are said to include four new suspects for the serial killings which terrorised Whitechapel in 1888 and have become one of the world's most infamous unsolved cases.

The historic ledgers have 36,000 entries detailing police interaction with informants between 1888 to 1912.

However, Scotland Yard reportedly believes disclosing the names could hinder recruiting and gathering information from modern informants, affecting terrorism investigations - and even lead to the Victorians' relatives being attacked.

Author and former police officer, Trevor Marriott, has tried for three years to see uncensored versions of the documents.

He has previously applied under the Freedom of Information Act and, when that was refused, he appealed to the Information Commissioner, which also rejected his attempt. I WANT TO SEE THIS SECRET CACHE!

He has now appealed to the Information Tribunal, which is expected to release its decision later this year.

Mr Marriott, who has written two previous books on the case, told the Sunday Mirror: 'These files should be made public at once. They are some of the most interesting records on the case I've come across.

'Some of the informants died more than 100 years ago, so to censor the documents is absurd.'

He told the Sunday Telegraph he thought it could be the 'very last chance' to solve the case, as the files contained at least four new suspects and other evidence.

The three day hearing - part of a legal battle which has so far cost the taxpayer thousands of pounds - was last week told by a detective inspector, known as D, that disclosing the files could deter informants from helping the police.

Speaking from behind a screen, the Sunday Telegraph reported that the officer - who works in intelligence gathering - said: 'Confidence in the system is maintaining their safety, regardless of age.'

The newspaper also said that Det Supt Julian McKinney said that any release would make officers less able to prevent terrorist attacks and organised crime: 'Regardless of the time, regardless of whether they are dead, they should never be disclosed.

A new book sensationally claims to unmask Jack the Ripper - as the Scotland Yard detective who led the hunt for the serial killer.

A Spanish investigator names Chief Inspector Frederick Abberline as the man who brutally murdered at least five women in Victorian London.

Jose Luis Abad, 84, makes the claim in his book 'Jack the Ripper: The most intelligent murderer in history', published in Spain this week.

Mr Abad is a handwriting expert and bases his claims on a comparison of Chief Inspector Abberline's writing with that of Jack the Ripper's diary - a 63 page document that surfaced in Liverpool in 1992.

He compared the writing in the diary, which mentions Chief Inspector Abberline 24 times, with a police report written by the detective and his signature at the end of his memoirs.

Mr Abad, a member of the Spanish Graphology Society, said: 'Having compared the handwriting I have no doubt Inspector Abberline was in fact Jack the Ripper. It sounds unbelievable, but the fact is handwriting does not lie.

'Their scripts are identical.'

Mr Abad, who has studied handwriting since 1975, started his investigation into the Ripper murders seven years ago.

A sensational new book has caused a storm among historians by claiming that Jack the Ripper was, in fact, a woman.

Former solicitor John Morris, 62, has named Welsh-born Lizzie Williams as the Whitechapel monster - and claims she killed her victims because she could not have children, ripping out the wombs of three in an 'unhinged state'.

Lizzie was wife of royal physician Sir John Williams, himself seen as a prime suspect by many other crime experts.

Mr Morris, from Birmingham, also cites evidence - which has not proved popular among Ripper experts - including the fact that none of the five murdered prostitutes was sexually assaulted; and the personal items of one, Annie Chapman, were laid out at her feet 'in a feminine manner'.

RE: Jack the Ripper~graphic pics - Lady Cop - 09-01-2012

and another suspect. haha

UK Telegraph

It has been the subject of macabre speculation for more than 100 years but now two Jack The Ripper experts believe they have found the identity of the Whitechapel serial killer.

Authors Christer Holmgren and Edward Stow believe the most likely suspect for Jack The Ripper is Charles Cross, a cartman who claimed to have found the first victim prostitute Polly Nichols on August 31 1888.

Cross was discovered crouching over the body by a witness Robert Paul.

He told police he had been walking through Bucks Row on his way to Pickfords’ depot in Broad Street at around 3am when he found the body of Nichols.

But Holmgren and Stow believe he could have been the killer, disturbed as he was mutilating the body of Nichols.

Paul claimed he had seen Cross standing by the body of Nichols when he had arrived but Cross later told police he had been standing away from the body in the road.

And all the subsequent murders took place between his home in Doveton Street in Bethnal Green and his work at Broad Street at times when he would have been walking to work.

Mr Stow said: "We think it Charles Cross, the first person who found that first body. He was seen crouching over Polly Nichols and he wast trying to cover up some of the wounds.

"He hasn't been the subject of a lot of investigation and has only crept up very vaguely in census records.

"We have found out that he gave a false name to the police. His real name was Charles Latchmere.

"The police at the time were looking for some sort of special individual. But most crimes turn out to be someone quite ordinary.

"He walked past every single murder scene on his way to work. He is the best suspect so far."

Mary Ann "Polly" Nichols was attacked as she walked home from a night walking the Whitechapel Road.

Her throat was slit twice from left to right and her body mutilated.

The body of second Ripper victim, Annie Chapman, was found on September 8 in the back yard of 29 Hanbury Street, Spitalfields. Her abdomen was slashed entirely open, and it was later discovered that the uterus had been removed.

Elizabeth Stride and Catherine Eddowes were killed in the early morning of Sunday 30 September 1888.

Eddowes' body was found in Mitre Square, in the City of London, three-quarters of an hour after Stride's. The throat was severed, and the abdomen was ripped open by a long, deep, jagged wound. The left kidney and the major part of the uterus had been removed.

The final victim, Mary Jane Kelly was discovered lying on the bed in the single room where she lived at 13 Miller's Court off Dorset Street, Spitalfields on November 9 1888. The throat had been severed down to the spine, and the abdomen virtually emptied of its organs. Even her heart was missing.

The removal of the organs led the police to suspect he was an educated upper-class man, possibly a doctor or an aristocrat. Suggestions for the culprit included Prince Albert Victor, the grandson of Queen Victoria, and Sir William Gull, the Queen's doctor.

Holmgren and Stow made the claims on the anniversary of the first murder at a re-enactment in Bethnal Green.

Cross died in 1920 and was survived by his wife who eventually passed away on 12 September 1940 in Stratford.

I never knew Jack the Ripper mutilated the bodies so badly. One must suspect he was a prevert of some sort who hated women.

Alfred Hitchcock did an episode that the serial killer of women in London was an investigator chasing the murderer.
