Perverts exploit the vulnerable - HairOfTheDog - 09-08-2011 The 23-year-old woman made the perfect victim. She had no family and spent her childhood years in the Alabama foster system before aging out when she was 21. Police say she was mentally challenged and had no where else to go. So Maurice and Toni Johnson took her in... But they weren't thinking about providing her with a loving home. They were looking for a sex slave to keep in their Gadsden, Alabama house. She was found naked and handcuffed to a bed. Her hair had been chopped off and it was lying next to her on the floor. She'd also been sexually tortured, though police haven't released details on what exactly happened. Maurice Johnson bonded out of jail and disappeared, leaving his wife to rot in the slam. http://www.truecrimereport.com/2011/09/maurice_toni_johnson_tortured.php RE: Perverts exploit the vulnerable - QueenBee - 09-08-2011 That is just too sick for belief. People like that make me totally nuts/ RE: Perverts exploit the vulnerable - Lady Cop - 09-08-2011 i knew about the story, i am trying to remember another really awful one a few years ago. a bunch of damn hillbillies kept a disabled young black girl prisoner and tortured her. i just can't recall names at the moment. here is another article about it. i wouldn't rely on that rag 'true crime report' for a fucking thing. certainly not NEWS. GADSDEN, AL (WAFF) - A Gadsden woman and her husband have been charged with sexual torture, unlawful imprisonment and sodomy involving a 23-year-old mentally challenged woman. Gadsden Police Capt. Regina May said 40-year-old Toni Renea Johnson was arrested Friday. Police said Johnson and her husband, Maurice Johnson, had handcuffed the woman to the frame of a bed. "It's just sick. Whoever is going to do something like that is just sick in the head," said Jimmy Brown, who works near the crime scene. Brown said he was at work at a tire shop when he saw police pull up to the home on Forrest Avenue where investigators said the abuse happened. Police officers responded to a call and found the woman naked and cuffed. Police couldn't remove the cuffs and Gadsden Fire Department officers were summoned to cut the cuffs off. Police said the victim lived at the house with the two suspects. A fourth roommate found the victim naked and handcuffed to a bed. Her hair had been chopped off and was on the floor beside her. Details of the abuse left many neighbors angry and disgusted. "Right now, I'm furious, I'm upset. Because I have kids at home and I wouldn't want my kids going through that," said Brown. Capt. May said the victim had lived in foster and group homes for most of her life and had no family. May said the couple took advantage of her situation and convinced the victim to move in with them. "People like this young woman, who aren't able to make decisions for themselves, fall victim. People will take their checks, spend their money if there's any," she said. The Johnsons were arrested on unrelated warrants. Police said Toni Johnson remains in jail on charges involving the woman and Maurice Johnson is still at large after making bond on the earlier charges. Police believe Maurice Johnson has relatives living in Georgia, where he may have fled. "These types of things, when our most vulnerable citizens are taken advantage of and physically harmed, by just really mean and terrible people, it does hurt your heart," said May. The victim is now in the care of the Department of Human Resources and case workers are working to place her in a safe home. RE: Perverts exploit the vulnerable - Lady Cop - 09-08-2011 here's the story i was trying to recall: updated 9/11/2007 AP CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Authorities said Tuesday they are considering hate crime charges in the case of a woman who was tortured while being held captive for at least a week, and they are investigating the possibility that she was lured by a man she met on the Internet. The victim was repeatedly called a racial slur while her captors sexually abused, beat and stabbed her, her mother said. Six people, all white, including a mother and son and a mother and daughter, were arrested in connection with the alleged abduction of the 20-year-old black woman. “I don’t understand a human being doing another human being the way they did my daughter,” Carmen Williams said Tuesday from her daughter’s room at Charleston Area Medical Center General Hospital. “I didn’t know there were people like that out here.” Megan Williams, with a cast on her arm, spoke barely above a whisper. “I’m better,” she said. The Associated Press generally does not identify suspected victims of sexual assault, but Williams and her mother agreed to release her name. Advertise | AdChoices 'Out of a horror movie' A prosecutor said police are investigating the possibility that the victim was lured to the house where she was attacked by a man she met on the internet, but Carmen Williams insisted that wasn’t the case. “This wasn’t from the Internet,” she said. Deputies also interviewed the victim Tuesday morning. State, local and federal officials planned to meet later in the day to decide whether to file hate crime charges, Logan County sheriff’s Sgt. Sonya Porter said. An FBI spokesman in Pittsburgh, Bill Crowley, confirmed that the agency is looking into possible civil rights violations. The woman’s abductors called her the N-word “every time they stabbed her,” Carmen Williams told The Charleston Gazette earlier. Authorities were still looking for two people they believe drove the woman to the house where she was abused, said Logan County Chief Deputy V.K. Dingess. The case is “something that would have come out of a horror movie,” Logan County Sheriff W.E. Hunter said. Deputies found Williams on Saturday when they went to the house in Big Creek, about 35 miles southwest of Charleston, to investigate an anonymous tip from someone who had witnessed the abuse, Porter said Tuesday. One of the suspects, Frankie Brewster, was sitting on the front porch and told deputies she was alone, but moments later the woman limped toward the door, her arms outstretched, saying “Help me,” the sheriff’s department said in a news release. Alleged victim may leave hospital soon Carmen Williams said doctors told her daughter she may be well enough to leave the hospital within a few days, although a nurse said the young woman’s condition was listed as “under evaluation.” “I just want my daughter to be well and recover,” Carmen Williams said. “I know the Lord can do anything.” Besides being sexually assaulted, the woman was stabbed four times in the left leg and beaten, Porter said. Her eyes were black and blue. The wounds were inflicted at least a week ago, deputies said. The woman was forced to eat rat and dog feces and drink from a toilet, according to the criminal complaint filed in magistrate court. She also had been choked with a cord, it alleges. One of those arrested, Karen Burton, is accused of cutting the woman’s ankle with a knife. She used the N-word in telling the woman she was victimized because she is black, according to the criminal complaint. Advertise | AdChoices Six suspects charged The six suspects were arrested Saturday and Sunday. Deputies were still trying to determine whether the woman knew her assailants, Porter said. Brewster, the 49-year-old who owns the home where the alleged attacks occurred, is charged with kidnapping, sexual assault, malicious wounding and giving false information during a felony investigation. Her son, Bobby R. Brewster, 24, also of Big Creek, is charged with kidnapping, sexual assault, malicious wounding and assault during the commission of a felony. Burton, 46, of Chapmanville, is charged with malicious wounding, battery and assault during the commission of a felony. Her daughter Alisha Burton, 23, of Chapmanville, and George A. Messer, 27, of Chapmanville, are charged with assault during the commission of a felony and battery. Danny J. Combs, 20, of Harts, is charged with sexual assault and malicious wounding. All six remained in custody Tuesday in lieu of $100,000 bail each, and all have asked for court-appointed attorneys. victim she later recanted, i don't know why. but all 7 are in prison, her recantation was not deemed reliable. Sorry LC - I agree about True Crime Report as a news source. I always verify the arrests and news elsewhere before posting, but sometimes the rag does cut to the chase quickly on the story. i'll avoid sourcing it in the future. Here is the local news link confirming the story: http://www.gadsdentimes.com/article/20110906/WORK/110909858?p=2&tc=pg The 2007 story you posted is horrendous. I really wonder how many mentally and physically disabled people are abused and it's never uncovered. Silent victims. Those who abuse children, the elderly, and the disabled deserve a special place in hell.... RE: Perverts exploit the vulnerable - Lady Cop - 09-08-2011 the reason i feel that way about tcr is that they tried to trash Mock (and me) a while back, when in fact i am always accurate, on top of stories and don't post gossip and bullshit. like they do. but it's none of my business what other people read. that is simply my personal opinion. RE: Perverts exploit the vulnerable - Cheyne - 09-08-2011 Maurice is stupid, they'll catch him soon enough. Let that bitch of a wife of his rot in jail. Though I am sure she'll have some excuse like, "I was in fear of my life, that's why I helped him." She'll probably cut a deal.
