What do you think? Does it matter? - cannongal - 12-16-2011 McClatchy Newspapers released an article yesterday accusing the Marines of embellishing the heroic efforts of Cpl. Dakota Meyer, in order to receive the Medal of Honor..... http://www.mcclatchydc.com/2011/12/14/133134/medal-of-honor-inflated-story.html The Marines immediately issued a rebuttal statement, which McClatchy actually printed.... http://www.mcclatchydc.com/2011/12/15/133198/marine-corps-statement-on-cpl.html#storylink=omni_popular There are also articles on CNN and Fox about it-but they are mostly regurgitated from the 2 McClatchy articles. I wondered, while reading the original article, who exactly, they were trying to discredit. There is Cpl. Meyer, whose name and image is liberally posted through out the article. Then the Marine Corps themselves, who McClatchy accuses of wanting a MOH recipient so bad, they'd lie to get it. Lastly Obama's name is also tossed about, there is implication that he pushed the MOH process through in order to honor a living recipient. I have a hard time believing the Marines would risk their integrity over a chuck of metal-I know the military covers things up now and then (shit happens), but why would the Marines put this young man in the spotlight, under the kind of stress that would encompass standing next to the President and getting accolades, if they did not have documented proof of his deeds? I'm sure that now, thanks to Mclatchys article, Cpl. Meyer is getting harassed by every journalist in the country trying to get a statement out of him. Does McClatchys really need to make him relive this ambush over and over in order to sell more papers? As far as trying to make Obama look bad (well I'm all for that-but), there are about 1,000 other things they could investigate about Barrack's clan and his way of doing business. I personally don't care whether he killed 8 or 58 Taliban-he did his best and saved some lives and that's good enough for me. The media doesn't have to harass him for the next few years-making him second guess himself and probably go into hiding. I'm glad the Marine Corps is standing behind him on this, I hope his name doesn't get dragged through the mud-he doesn't deserve to be ridiculed for his acts of bravery, and he certainly doesn't need to be nitpicked apart, for things that out of his control. That's good enough for me too. Of course the military would lie. Of course the government would lie. Of course Congress would lie. They all fuckin' lie. I'll never forget Pat Tillman. Today is my Dad's birthday. He's a Marine who spent a year and 1⁄2 flying choppers in 'Nam back in '67. I found his medals once when we were cleaning out his mothers house. One of the items was an 8 X 10 frame with a shit load of little gold and silver stars pinned int it, he said there was a silver star for every 10 missions he flew, and I forget what the gold ones were for. I never really thought about it before, but today it struck me, that he could have died over there-and I never would have been created. I didn't ponder the thought for too long, but I'm glad here's celebrating his 61st birthday today. Happy Birthday, Dad! RE: What do you think? Does it matter? - SIXFOOTERsez - 12-16-2011 NPR was interviewing that asshole reporter yesterday, I never figured out what he was so pissey about. Seemd like he was championing the other marines that were that day that didn't get medals and maybe felt like they should have. But, I think that he is just a weasel, being a weasel. Kinda like totally different states. As different as MF and Dick. The Marine didn't lie in this case, everybody else did. Let him have his MOH. Fire the fuckers that did lie. RE: What do you think? Or both? RE: What do you think? Does it matter? - Duchess - 12-17-2011 (12-17-2011, 01:08 AM)Cracker Wrote: He was Army. The service branches are as different as you can get. I know he was Army & not a Marine, that was irrelevant to me, I grouped the military as a whole...dead is dead & a lie is a lie. RE: What do you think? Yeah, like I am going to disrespect that poor kid. It was aimed towards the Army. They have lower standards. Here is our Air Force making fun of themselves for disposing of dead servicemembers' remains in the dump: Navy is OK, just full of blacks. They think they won't have to fight on a ship. Equality = black people learning how to swim. Go MLK! RE: What do you think? It was a civilian contractor that dumped the cremated remains into the landfill. I have no idea what that photo is all about but it pisses me off that it puts the AF in a bad (worse) light since that was the branch of the military I served in. RE: What do you think? Does it matter? - Cracker - 12-17-2011 Yeah, that pic sucks. Someone got it off Facebook then forwarded it to a superior officer. Remember that puppy some retarded Marines threw off the cliff? They were out of HI. That base is now VERY aware of animal cruelty. You can't touch a dog there. As much as I hate that some servicemembers do stupid shit, it at least causes positive change. The remains of our KIA will now for sure be treated with respect, even if it is a burned-up toe. |
