Use the whole word. - ramseycat - 04-21-2012

There is a trend among young people these days and it annoys me almost as much as wearing jammy pants in public. They shorten words. Instead of obvious, they say obvi. Or instead of whatever, they say whatev. Or evs as my son says. It drives me crazy! Are people to lazy to speak in full words or full sentences???? GGGGRRRRR!

Some are, yup. I don't like it either & I really don't like it when people don't enunciate, I detest that shit. Lazy bastards. It always makes me want to talk like a retard when I respond to them.

mental laziness-- similar to people who can't figure out the difference between to and too, you're and your, loose and lose, a lot and alot (no such word), their, they're and there, women and woman etc. ad infinitum.
it doesn't impress employers or others with their alleged intelligence.

There is a place and a time to be a whiny bitch, Mock isn't the place and when anyone is around you isn't the time.

I don't really mind shortened words and acronyms as much as I do consistently bad grammar and spelling.

Btw: this is JMO, FWIW.

Using shortened words or text speak on a forum doesn't bother me so much. It's when people are having a conversation face to face that it bothers me.

No User, it was put here for discussion purposes. From your response I'm guessing you are one of those people that speak in these abbreviated words.

Perhaps you should be talking to your son about this little problem and not us. Tell him he sounds like a retard or in his language a re-re, that should take care of it.

dilligaf?

RE: Use the whole word. - Donovan - 04-22-2012

The next time your kid throws a shortened word into a sentence, tell him:

Fruit of my loins, the love I bear thee can afford no better term than this; thou art a villain and a three-suited varlet, a base companion to the lesser things that crawl amid the weeds and rivulets of the offal in the alleyways; a charnel-house dweller of no great import.

Then when he says" Huh? What does that mean?" Tell him "exactly" and leave the room.

wtffyt is that you?

RE: Use the whole word. - sally - 04-22-2012

Better yet, everytime your kid throws a shortened word into a sentence start singing Tempted by the fruit of another. That should stop it.

Really Sally? You think I should talk to my son about proper language? That never occured to me.

I tell Thing 2 that if he doesn't speak properly, I don't hear him. It works. He does continue to talk to his friends that way and they respond in kind. It bothers me more when I hear adults talking that way. One of the girls I work with always say "welcs" when I say thank you. She is 49 and a nurse and should know proper language.

Well it should have occured to you because having the little sucker running around saying "evs" instead of whatever isn't kosher. In fact it's downright stupid. Some kids are followers and can't realize for themselves that it's ridiculous, they need a parent to point it out. Obviously you're not doing a good job.
