Autumn Pasquale, 12, missing/murdered from Clayton, NJ - ScientistsCanvas - 10-21-2012

Autumn Pasquale is one week away from turning 13. She has blonde hair with pink highlights, stands about 5'2" and weighs 120 pounds according to police.

The family of 12-year-old Autumn Pasquale is growing anxious because the Clayton girl went for a bike ride around 12:30 Saturday afternoon and hasn't been seen since.

Both police and family members believe Pasquale's cell phone is now turned off. Relatives say they have reason to believe the girl could've ventured to the area of Scotland Run Park. They spent Sunday searching these grounds.

I saw an article about this earlier today and looked for more - I was surprised how little coverage there was. I think the article I read said her parents didn't get concerned until 9:30 at night. I'll see if I can find that one.

Never mind. This story just says the parents reported her missing at 9:30. But the story doesn't say where the parents thought she was supposed to be, or what time they got concerned when she didn't come home.

Getting concerned a day later? That's when you're in full on panic mode. Odd.

Huffington Post:

A 12-year-old girl disappeared on Saturday while riding her bike, and several agencies have been working night and day to find her.

Autumn Pasquale, of Clayton, N.J., was last seen leaving her home on a white Odyssey BMX bike at around 12:30 p.m., the South Jersey Times reports. Her parents, upon realizing she didn't make it to a friend's house, reported her missing at about 9:30 p.m.

"It's not like her," said Pasquale's father, Tony. "She would have been home 11 o'clock this morning if she slept over a friend's house."

Parents sound like real winners!

[Sorry the link is messed up - my link button isn't working and I obviously somehow screwed up the html trying to do it manually.]

CLAYTON, N.J. — The FBI and New Jersey State Police have joined the search for a missing 12-year-old who rode her bike from her family's southern New Jersey home and has not been seen since.

Autumn Pasquale was last seen on her white BMX bicycle at her family's home on West High Street in Clayton at 12:30 p.m. Saturday. Her family reported her missing nine hours later.

Her father, Tony Pasquale, told reporters that he believed she was heading to a friend's house and that the family became worried when they realized she never made it there....

... The search has employed a helicopter and blood hounds and interviews with people who know the girl.

He said there was on unconfirmed report that she was spotted in a neighborhood a few miles from her house.

The girl was believed to have a cellphone with her.

Her bicycle has also not been found.

Autumn Pasquale Missing 12 yr old N.J. Girl - Sphincter Cop - 10-22-2012

Hundreds of community volunteers, the FBI, city and state police have joined the search for Pasquale. Her phone is now either off or has run out of power, investigators told NBC.

She's described by posters on a Facebook page set up to help find her as blonde, 5-foot-2 and weighing 120 pounds. She was last seen wearing navy blue shorts underneath navy blue sweatpants, a yellow T-shirt with "Clayton Soccer" on front, and bright blue high-top sneakers.

Search and rescue bloodhounds haven't yet turned up any clues, the Christian Post reports.

Well, the bloodhound part doesn't sound too promising for a safe return, and I am not sure if the father is in shock but his demeanor is very stoic.

It seems like she had too much freedom at the age of 12, and a face full of makeup, which I hate to see on a little girl. That might be the oldschool in me.

I don't have any kind of feeling about this one yet, good or bad. I hope she makes it home safe.

Well, my gut is telling me something is really awry here. I hope this ends on a positive note, but 34 hours she has been missing. Not good.

I hope she is found safely too, but agree that it doesn't look promising.

SphincterCop: there is another thread started yesterday about Autumn. Maybe Duchess can merge the two?

The father sounds like an idiot! "Well, if she'd been at a sleepover she'd been home by 11". You don't know if your daughter is at a sleepover or not? Loser.

I'm confused. She left at 12:30pm. IF she would have spent the night at a friends, she would have been home by 11, I'm asuming a.m.
Apparently, she didn't spend the night at a friends, so she would have been home then anyways, and then she left at half past noon.
So she was gone for 9 hrs of the day, why would a sleepover that didn't even happen be relevant? And these worthless POS parents had no contact with her (12 yrs old) all day?
Is it normal for 12 year old girls to be out for 9 hours without any contact with her parents? Seriously, am I living in the dark ages?

Smiley_emoticons_smile Thanks for the additional information on the case.

When I first read about it yesterday, figured maybe she'd taken off for short periods before and that's why the parents seemed what I consider a bit nonchalant about it.

It's been too long now though; I think someone would have seen the news and called in if she was okay. I think your gut is right (but hope it's wrong).

@FQ, I think I read yesterday that the parents were "beginning" to get concerned. I think even though they reported her missing at 9:30pm, they believed she could have been at some random sleepover. Yeah, at minimum it sounds like the father had no clue about his daughter's activities. Asshole

Jennifer Cornwell - Mom, Prosecutor, Anthony Pasquale - Dad

"County Prosecutor Sean Dalton stood with her parents Jennifer Cornwell & Anthony Pasquale and said law enforcement has spoken to 75 friends and family. Dalton also said that investigators are looking at records of every registered sex offender in the area and they are looking at surveillance video from around town".

"Autumn sent a text message at 2:30PM on Saturday afternoon to her parents but Dalton did not disclose its contents or where it was sent from. Earlier reports indicated a cell tower in neighboring Williamstown was the last to detect her phone’s signal."

"He said there is no specific person of interest in the case. “We haven’t ruled out any theory as to whether this is a runaway or abduction. We’re continuing to track down leads,” said Dalton."

"Investigators have interviewed all the registered sex offenders living in the area and are searching the areas near their homes."

"Volunteer and law enforcement searches are taking place on the ground and in the air led by the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office, the FBI Clayton Police and State Police. More than 100 law enforcement personnel from 18 agencies are now involved in the search."

"Dalton said 50 county and local law enforcement officers were on the case shortly after she was reported missing."

"By Monday, the number grew fourfold as FBI and state police got involved in a search that has employed helicopters, horses, bloodhounds and computer experts. The computer experts were charged with seeing if any information about her whereabouts shows up on Facebook or elsewhere online."

"Early Monday, prosecutors' office spokesman Bernie Weisenfeld said the girl's bike had not been found. By the afternoon, Dalton would not say whether it had been located."

"Family of missing Clayton girl stops search for the night - 6:03 PM
Instead, the family would like the public to gather near the municipal building for a prayer vigil at 8:00 p.m."

**just a general observation - They probably are have checked cell tower sites to see exactly where the last "ping" was to give them some general idea. Way too many law enforcement officers and agencies concentrating their searches in the area (too many hours have passed in my opinion. Lets hope this is a runaway case, but my gut is saying no!***

Even though I live closer to Washington than to Philly my local news comes out of Philadelphia and this story is all over the local networks. Last night I heard them reporting that the searchers had been pulled off and that it was strictly LE now. I've seen LC say that's done when they don't expect to find a living person. :(

CLAYTON, N.J. (AP) -- Officials say an autopsy will be conducted Tuesday to determine whether a body found in a recycling container in Clayton is that of a missing 12-year-old southern New Jersey girl.

The Gloucester County Prosecutor's office said in a statement early Tuesday that the body found in Clayton at about 10 p.m. Monday has been preliminarily identified as Autumn Pasquale.

Pasquale was reported missing from her Clayton home at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, and had been the subject of a massive search by hundreds of law enforcement agencies and volunteers.

Officials did not say exactly where the body was found. They said Pasquale's family has been notified of the discovery.

Photos released by Clayton, N.J. Police Department show Autumn Pasquale, 12, of Clayton, N.J. Authorities say her family...More

A body found in a recycling container has been preliminarily identified as that of a missing 12-year-old southern New Jersey girl, officials said Tuesday.

The Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office said in a statement that the body found 10 p.m. Monday in Clayton is believed to be that of Autumn Pasquale, who was last seen on Saturday.

Officials did not say exactly where the body was found. An autopsy to confirm the body's identity will be conducted Tuesday morning by the Gloucester County Medical Examiner's office, officials said.

Pasquale was reported missing from her Clayton home at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, and had been the subject of a large search over the last two days.

Investigators with the prosecutor's office found the body shortly after an emotional candlelight vigil was held for the girl in her hometown.

Bernie Weisenfeld, spokesman for the Gloucester County Prosecutor's office, said Pasquale's family was notified of the discovery.

"This is a very sad day for the Pasquale family," Gloucester County Prosecutor Sean F. Dalton said in a statement. "Our hearts go out to the family and to all the residents of Clayton who stood together in support of this young girl."

No other information was released, and officials continued their investigation through the night.

About 200 law enforcement officials and hundreds more volunteers had searched Monday for Pasquale.

Dalton had said Monday afternoon, 48 hours after anyone had heard from the girl, that 75 people had been interviewed. At that time, investigators didn't have any suspects or a sure sense of whether the quiet BMX biking enthusiast had left on her own or was the victim of foul play.

With the girl's parents flanking him while holding back tears at an afternoon news conference, Dalton announced a $10,000 reward for information leading authorities to the girl. The parents - Anthony Pasquale and Jennifer Cornwell - did not speak at the news conference. Both wept during the evening vigil.

Authorities said Autumn, whose 13th birthday is Oct. 29, was last seen around 12:30 p.m. Saturday pedaling her white bicycle away from the Clayton home where she lives with her father, her two siblings, her father's girlfriend and the girlfriend's children.

A friend, 11-year-old DeAnna Edwards-McMillen, said Autumn was at her house Friday night and they exchanged text messages on Saturday. She said she received the last one at 1:22 p.m. and didn't believe it was intended for her. She said it read, "don't be like that."

DeAnna said her friend was nice and easy to be around. "She didn't hate people," she said in a tearful interview with The Associated Press, "and people didn't hate her."

DeAnna's mother, Debi McMillen, said that Autumn was often at their house and that she always went home before her 8 p.m. curfew.

The last known communication was in a text message she sent around 2:30 p.m. Dalton would not say who received the message or what it contained. But he said that there was nothing alarming or unusual about it.

It wasn't until about 9:30 p.m. that she was reported missing - 90 minutes past her 8 p.m. curfew, said Paul Spadofora, a family spokesman, the uncle of Autumn's father and the girl's godfather.

Dalton said 50 county and local law enforcement officers were on the case shortly after she was reported missing.

By Monday, the number grew fourfold as FBI and state police got involved in a search that has employed helicopters, horses, bloodhounds and computer experts. The computer experts were charged with seeing if any information about her whereabouts shows up on Facebook or elsewhere online.

Dalton said investigators accounted for all the registered sex offenders in the area, interviewed them and were searching their properties.

The weary crew of volunteers, meanwhile, was looking in area malls, handing out fliers at intersections in Clayton's tiny downtown and searching wherever they could.

Early Monday, Weisenfeld said the girl's bike had not been found. By the afternoon, Dalton would not say whether it had been located.
