THE LACK OF GOD - Duchess - 12-15-2012

Do you agree with the following statement?

Former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee weighed in on the massacre at an elementary school in Newtown, Conn. on Friday, saying the crime was no surprise because we have "systematically removed God" from public schools.

"We ask why there is violence in our schools, but we have systematically removed God from our schools," Huckabee said on Fox News. "Should we be so surprised that schools would become a place of carnage?"

RE: THE LACK OF GOD - Sphincter Cop - 12-15-2012

It’s not a systematic loss of religious virtue in public schools that caused this. Typical arrogant fucks jumping on the religious bandwagon; it's so annoying.

I think at some level we all share in the blame at times, but to point out one specific issue to commercialize a political/religious stance is typical of fucks like him.

And just like Huckabee is at one end of the spectrum, I'd say you're at the other end.

No difference.

I don't agree with Huckabee's statement, but I'm not surprised by it.

This tragedy is getting a hell of a lot of coverage, so it's ripe for advocates to attempt to use it to advance their causes.

-We'll see advocates for gun control contending that if Lanza hadn't had access to weapons (not confirmed, but likely to have been legally owned by his family), this may never have happened.

-We'll see advocates from the opposite camp claiming that if schools or teachers had guns or defensive measures in place that this may never have happened.

-We'll see Atheists using the incident as proof that there is no God; God would surely never allow this to happen.

-We'll see religious politicians like Huckabee contending that had God been taught in schools, maybe Adam Lanza wouldn't have become a spree killer of kids.

-If it turns out that Lanza did play a lot of violent video games or watched/listened to violent entertainment, we'll hear from advocates for more censorship that those influences drove Lanza to murder.

Whether or not some of these points are valid (wholly or partially) IDK, but we're gonna read and hear about them; that's the advocates' mission - use the exposure to advance their causes/beliefs.

Personally, I think if there is a God, he/she/it is not a physical presence that can be driven off of school grounds just because religion isn't taught there. And, for all I know, Adam Lanza was raised to believe in and worship God. In any case, I don't think that God not being taught in schools has any connection to this senseless horror. JMO.

God didn't have anything to do with this. That's not how it works for those of us that believe.

Yep, That's the work of the Devil.

People hold the power, not God or the debil.

I understand that most of those who believe see it that way. But, it's not gonna stop believers like Huckabee and others from using this tragedy to push their agenda.

Lots of different agenda-pushers are gonna be front and center on this one, rightly or wrongly. IMO.

I don't think teaching creationism in schools is going to stop mental people from accessing guns and killing people. And what the hell is Huckabee talking about that God is being taken out of the communities, there is a church on every corner in Anytown, USA. It's bigger business than McDonalds.

I agree and it's already begun. Some of the people up on their high horse regarding guns aren't even taking into consideration that these guns were legally obtained, they don't even care to hear that, they are blaming the guns and not the nutjob who fired them. There are people in my own life spouting bs, I'm distancing myself from that conversation in order not to insult them by rolling my eyes.

Really? You know my political and religious views? Interesting.....or ignorant; not sure which.

I like this quote from Huckabee in the OP:

"We ask why there is violence in our schools, but we have systematically removed God from our schools," Huckabee said on Fox News. "Should we be so surprised that schools would become a place of carnage?"

I guess that Mr. Huckabee isn't aware of the spree killing that occurred at the Wisconsin Sikh temple in August. A place that is devoted to the teaching and worship of God and whose followers believe that God created the universe.

According to his logic, the temple should have been exempt from becoming a place of carnage. Yet, it sure became one anyway - there are six dead bodies to prove it.

The continued destruction of personal responsibility and general morality has been tearing at the fabric of our society for decades.

It only has something to do with God if that is where your morality springs from.

I have to agree.....I think it plays a major role in a lot of what has been going on as of late.

RE: THE LACK OF GOD - OnBendedKnee - 12-15-2012

Could God have prevented this?
The killer was a Christian.

RE: THE LACK OF GOD - ramseycat - 12-15-2012

I have a lit of things going in in my life that I don't think I could handle without my faith. Some of these things also make me question why?? Question my faith. Make me angry. I don't tho k we can blame the wrongs in society on God. He gave us the gift of choice. He doesn't control the choices we make.

RE: THE LACK OF GOD - Midwest Spy - 12-15-2012

What bothers me is hearing parents being interviewed saying, 'Angels were protecting our precious little one.'

Meanwhile, the parents of 20 murdered kids are left to wonder why Angels chose to ignore theirs.

Even if you truly believe Angels/God watched over your child, please don't state it publicly when others are grieving and left asking 'Why?'

Similar to what Six was saying in the other thread. I've decided I agree. This killing has been sort of an eye-opener for me.

Maybe the JWs are right, and Satan rules the Earth. And it is God's fault, at that.
