There is such a thing as National Black Hiv/Aids Awareness Day?

Well, there is and their slogan is "Our ancestors fought that we might be free - even from HIV".

Go fly a kite!

Today's national "fly a kite day"...

Did you know? Kites were first used by the military in ancient China over 3,000 years ago. They'd fasten light explosives to the kites and detonate them over enemy camps.

RE: DID YOU KNOW? - Maggot - 02-08-2013

I bet they used remote control to detonate them.

RE: DID YOU KNOW? - OnBendedKnee - 02-08-2013

If I had to choose kites or dolphins for military work, I'd choose dolphins.

I love Chinese kites (and lanterns and masks), but I don't know much about ancient explosives.

I suppose that the string could be considered an ancient form of "remotely controlling" the kite which was possibly navigated to crash into structures within/around the enemy camp, or maybe the explosive kite was shot down by arrow or something once it sailed over the enemy camp. This is my 小爆炸 (small bang) detonation guesstimation theory for which there is no factual basis or confirmation.

I also read that the Chinese fitted kites with hooks and bait and used them for fishing, but I don't know exactly how that worked either.

Chinese kites?
How racist!

The Chinese did invent gunpowder though, so maybe.

Smiley_emoticons_smile You're right, that did sound like blatant kite racism. Truly, I like all kites, not just Chinese ones.

The traditional Chinese dragon kites are the coolest though.
