TAX BREAKS FOR BIG BIZ - Duchess - 03-11-2013 Wouldn't it make sense to give big business tax breaks in order to keep their business in America? I'm speaking directly to manufacturing. I feel there must be something more to it that I'm not understanding. It couldn't be that simple, could it? RE: TAX BREAKS FOR BIG BIZ - Maggot - 03-11-2013 ..........it is but then free cell phones and food would be gone. Do you realize that 47% of Americans are on some kind of assistance from the government? That means that almost half of the United States is living the socialist dream. No, I didn't realize that. I knew the number was significant but didn't know it was almost half of all Americans. No wonder it's so difficult to create change when so many people might be happy with the status quo, it's disheartening. Agreed.........it includes all the old folks and everyone on social security, many statistics do not include that as if they were not there. RE: TAX BREAKS FOR BIG BIZ - username - 03-11-2013 Could we at least get rid of the penny? WTF is the point of it? These are the people that are really struggling, and it's what this country was founded on, and the backbone of this country, entrepreneurship. I don't know how you could make the distinction between small, and big business though. If you were to give large business a tax break, it would have to be with some type of caveat saying "X" amount of your product must be manufactured in the USA, otherwise, they would still go overseas where labor is cheaper, and environmental regulations are almost non-existent. RE: TAX BREAKS FOR BIG BIZ - Duchess - 03-12-2013 I wasn't disregarding small business, I understand the role they play in communities. I was thinking more of a larger impact and I agree with your caveat. It just seems to me that there are things that could be done to keep business in the US rather than sending it overseas yet no one attempts to do so. RE: TAX BREAKS FOR BIG BIZ - Jimbone - 03-12-2013 Labor has gone overseas because it is cheaper to build things there and ship them back to the US. If you were going to go into a business that would cost you $30 per item to make in the US versus $8 to make in China, Mexico, or Vietnam... what would you expect businesses to do? And the funny thing is that big business never really pays taxes... they just pass the increase on to the consumer, and lower their tax liability by every legal means available. Small businesses get double fucked. They have to navigate and limit their business tax liability, which means taking the income directly. And now if they are successful, they are taxed at 39.6% just at the federal level. Pile on to that the local taxes, Social Security tax, state unemployment insurance... and the small business owner ends up paying close to or over 50% of their income to taxes. Then just for good measure, their tax deductions get limited by the Alternative Minimum Tax so they have no place for relief. Oh, and after all of this you're continually told you don't pay enough or your fair share. Welcome to Amerika comrade. |
