How much is your time worth? - Maggot - 03-17-2013 I had a heated argument today. I was bitching about the cold weather and how the maple sap run sucked because its been cold all day and for 3 days nothing has flowed and the guy says, "why do you do that shit? If you paid yourself say 20.00 an hour you would never get back what you put into your effort, 4 hrs fucking with that shit gains you nothing monetarily!" He knows I can stuff and re-use things all the time. I replied " All day long you play video games and fuck off, your time means nothing at all" He said " yes it does , I have peace of mind and its relaxing" Who is right? I believe any moment wasted is a moment gone. Money has nothing to do with it. This is the younger generation, and not by more than 10 yrs or so ............we are truly fucked. RE: How much is your time worth? - Cracker - 03-17-2013 Maggot, That is a loaded question to ask people who waste time on Mock. I am doing laundry and cleaning in-between race baiting, so I guess you are right. But you also have to be able to chill sometimes and just do nothing for the sake of nothing or you get all nutted-up. RE: How much is your time worth? - Misguided - 03-17-2013 I keep trying to get together with a local guy up in the mountains up here to teach me how all that works,Maggot.I told him I would be free labor for him just to be part of it but we never seem to connect due to our work schedules and such. Pure Maple Syrup is one of the best things on the planet....well,....next to Old Bay steamed crabs and Capt Morgan and Coke ... That's a cool skill you have there.I'll bet you got lots of friends during the harvesting season! I have a helluva harder time trying to get some of these old bastids to teach me how to make good moonshine. They'll get me some if I kiss their ass enough but nobody wants to let ya in the loop of putting it all together.Same as the Morel Mushroom guys.Stingy pricks. Sap is easy. Moonshine well, thats a lot different. Although I do know people that put the grain juice in their tractors. Diesel engines are nice like that. Guy is redneck as duck and illiterate but he knows his 'shine RE: How much is your time worth? - HairOfTheDog - 03-17-2013 (03-17-2013, 05:27 PM)Duchess Wrote:(03-17-2013, 05:22 PM)Maggot Wrote: Who is right? I love to sleep, but I think you and Maggot are right. I have to fight laziness setting in because of the stop and start nature of what I do now; much more energizing to be engaged in constant activity with some relaxation and a set sleep time, imo. The homemade maple syrup and moonshine definitely sound like worthwhile time investments, regardless of monetary return. But, when LC used to praise Maggot's crisp pickles, that's when my mouth would really start to water. Do your trees look like that? RE: How much is your time worth? - Misguided - 03-18-2013 Cool. RE: How much is your time worth? - Maggot - 03-18-2013 Mine have gallon jugs hanging on them. Its been below 35 deg for the past week and we are suppost to get 10-12" of snow tonight so I took them off, I only have 10 at my house, the guy up the street has 20 trees and runs tubing. I wonder how he did the past week, I got nothing because the temps never went up during the day. I was getting about 3 gallons a day for a couple weeks there. They are in the freezer now, waiting for a fire. I think I have about 42 gallons of sap so far enough for a gallon of syrup or so. RE: How much is your time worth? - SIXFOOTERsez - 03-18-2013 With you on this one Maggot, I make all kinds of shit that you might be able to buy, but then again, the stuff I make lasts for years if not a lifetime. If I had maple trees I would be doing that too. RE: How much is your time worth? - OnBendedKnee - 03-19-2013 It takes 42 gallons of sap to produce one gallon of maple syrup? I did not know that. The next time I'm at IHOP I will offer a moment of silence. Because nothing tastes as sweet as the sweat of your own labor. Or you are a sexually frustrated closeted homosexual. Either one works. RE: How much is your time worth? - OnBendedKnee - 03-19-2013 ^ Some people run marathons "just for fun", so I suppose, each his own. RE: How much is your time worth? - Cracker - 03-19-2013 I'm glad there are people who keep the old ways alive outside of Dollywood. Maggot is a walking museum. |
