Zahra Baker, a murdered child
Jesus. This whole thing pretty much leaves me speechless. I don't even know where to begin to comment or bitch or rant or anything. It's all so insane. Signs_173

I know most people aren't going tho think about this, but I saw on stepmom's myspace that the family had a puppy. I wonder what happened to that poor dog? :O

I still get nauseous when I read these letters. Real or fake. Sick shit.

However - did anyone else find it odd that the above quoted section is in block print? Mid-sentence change from cursive to block . . . . . . thoughts?

[/quote]

I noticed that too Tiki. Definitely odd. I thought maybe the letter was written at different times? Maybe she wrote the first half in cursive, got called out to scrub toilets or something, then went back and finished it? I don't know..just a thought. I know I will write differently depending on what mood I'm in or what I'm doing, but that letter really looks like it was done by two different people. The top half looks swirly and written up and leaning a teeny to the right and the bottom half is leaning to the left. Odd.

a cousin of elisa baker appeared on the nancy grace program this evening, w/o her face being visible. she said that she visited elisa in jail this past monday. and that in letters, plus in the visit, elisa alleged that she was the one who had bruises and black eyes, that she loved Zahra, that she has taken a polygraph which proves her innocence, that she did not kill Zahra (but did not say what they did with her), that her husband is letting her take the fall essentially. cousin also said elisa is bi-polar and depressive.

smells of defense theme.

edit to add...nobody has a copy of these letters to the cousin. i'm betting she's waiting on a high bidder.

from the looks of the house interior, there wasn't much to take out. (post #260)

adam baker showed up sat. with a rental moving truck and emptied what remained in house.

investigators have taken a well-deserved weekend off from ground searches.

HICKORY RECORD:
Adam Baker was spotted along with his mother, brother and assorted friends and family as they loaded the Bakers’ possessions into a U-Haul truck Saturday afternoon.

About 10 people gathered in front of the home as furniture and other possessions were carried out of the house at 21 21st Ave. to the truck.

Baker was served an eviction notice Tuesday and ordered to leave the home where, on Oct. 9, he had called 911 to report his daughter, Zahra Baker, missing.

Three days later, Hickory police cancelled an Amber Alert put out for her and said the case was being investigated as a homicide.

Jennifer McAlpine, 36, of North Wilkesboro said she and her two daughters made the 45-minute drive Saturday to leave a teddy bear at the shrine for Zahra in the front yard.

She arrived at about 2 p.m. and said she was stunned to spot Adam Baker in the yard, and when he saw her he went into the house where he stayed.

“I just told my girls not to say anything,” McAlpine said. “We’re not here for that.”

As word got out that the Bakers were at the house, local people began to gather, and the tension built as they took pictures with their cell phones.

Eventually Baker’s mother came out of the house to ask the people to leave her family alone.

“She said, ‘Please stop taking the pictures. You don’t know what’s going on and you shouldn’t judge until you have all the facts,’” McAlpine said.

One woman asked why Baker was helping a “murderer” and the two got into a shouting match before Baker got into a station wagon loaded with Zahra’s toys and was driven away, McAlpine said.

Baker got into another car and followed his mother. Then the U-Haul drove away behind them.

McAlpine began to cry as she explained that she had driven from North Wilkesboro because her heart goes out to 10-year-old Zahra.

“There’s no one who should have to go through that,” she said. “We just want them to tell what they did if they did anything to Zahra.”

The other onlookers agreed.

“We just want to know the truth,” said Paula Shannon of Greenville who was in Hickory to visit friends when she decided to have a look at the Baker house.

I dunno...I think strangers showing up to the house and gawking is kind of weird. Leaving a toy or something in remembrance is fine, but drop it and leave. No sense in getting into a shouting match with people over something you really know nothing about. It seems people are just trying to get on camera or in the paper to rack up their 15 minutes. If they want to say a prayer for the kid, do it at home or in church, not in the front yard.

Hickory, North Carolina (CNN) -- The stepmother of a missing 10-year-old girl in North Carolina said during a jailhouse visit with two relatives this week that she blames a lot of her current predicament on her husband, one of those relatives said Friday.

The relative, one of two cousins who visited Monday with Elisa Baker in jail, said she was speaking publicly after a few family members met and "decided that we needed to share a few things that we do know."

Elisa Baker's stepdaughter, Zahra Baker, was reported missing last month.

"As we talked with her, she cried over missing Zahra and how her husband has left her to take all the blame for what has happened when he played a big part in this terrible situation," the cousin said in an exclusive interview with HLN's "Nancy Grace" producer Natisha Lance. The cousin spoke on condition of anonymity because of death threats the family has received.

Later, the cousin said Elisa Baker believed it was unfair that she was jailed "for something that he had done," referring to husband Adam Troy Baker, Zahra's father.

The cousin said she hoped that Zahra's body will be found soon, "since she is believed to be deceased and that all of the truth will come out."

The cousin said she and her sister visited Elisa in jail on Monday after more than two years during which they had not spoken.and why is that? now they are best friends? want to bet they sell the letters? unless the police have already obtained a warrant for them.

The woman added that she had received three letters from Elisa, "and in each one of them she made it very clear how much she cared about Zahra and that she don't understand the man that she loves can be this, can do her this way."

The woman said she did not know what happened to the freckle-faced girl who lost her leg to bone cancer at age 5 and reportedly developed lung cancer a few years later.

Police launched a search for Zahra on October 9, but no one other than a family member had reported seeing her since September 25, when a woman saw her at a furniture store.

Police on Monday confirmed that a prosthetic leg discovered last week in brush off a North Carolina road belongs to Zahra Baker, whose disappearance is now being probed as a homicide.

Police said Elisa Baker admitted that she planted a fake ransom note the day after the girl's disappearance was reported.

Initially arrested on October 10 on charges unrelated to Zahra's disappearance, including writing worthless checks, Elisa Baker was additionally charged with obstruction of justice for leaving the note. That charge is a felony.

She is now cooperating with investigators, Hickory police have said.

Zahra's father was arrested late last month in nearby Catawba County on eight charges, including five counts of submitting worthless checks and three counts of failing to appear in court.

Police earlier acknowledged that Adam Baker faced bad-check charges unrelated to the disappearance of his daughter. But they did not initially arrest him, as he had been helping authorities in their search.

"Adam Baker has a lot of the answers," Elisa Baker's cousin said Friday. "What we do know about him is that he doesn't believe in God. He is very into paganism. He's ridin' around with a sign on his window that says Zahra was abused by her stepmother. WTF? ANYONE KNOW ABOUT THIS? WHAT EXACTLY IS IN HIS VEHICLE WINDOW? WHAT KIND OF CHILDISH HORSESHIT IS THAT??

ok i got it from Hickory Record: He climbed into the Dodge Dakota he’d arrived in. A missing child poster was taped to the truck’s rear window. The poster is identical to others posted around Hickory and gives Zahra’s physical description. It states, “Zahra has been abused daily by her mother; who is now in jail and is a suspect in her disappearance.”
If this is true, then why didn't he, the biological father, put a stop to it and protect his little girl?

"Why didn't he beg the public for someone to bring his daughter home? Why has he not personally searched for Zahra? How could a loving father begin his 911 call with, 'Hello, how are you doing?' He needs to answer these questions."

my personal opinion on adam baker after his few tv appearances...he has a very low IQ. dumb as a stump. hopefully the Grand Jury or the DA will have enough probable cause soon to charge him with a felony and lock him back up. with a high bond. i don't know if his mommy can afford a big bail.

You know this forum is better for getting information than the mainstream media!

When George Stephanopolos was interviewing the father (when he was pretending to cry at the end) with the police chief. I noticed he had written on his t-shirt some death type gothic pic that said "vengeance" written on it. I hope its prophetic for him to get some "vengeance".

I really hope the truth comes out. That little girl was so vunerable.

WCNC:
Investigators issued a subpoena for Elisa Baker's financial records. The subpoena was issued to a bank branch located in a Wal-Mart in Granite Falls.

The subpoena says she may have used as many as eight different aliases and also requested any financial transactions made by Baker's daughter from a previous marriage, Amber Fairchild.

Baker's attorney would not comment on the subpoena. Police will only say it is part of the investigation.

HICKORY - The district attorney has asked the state attorney general to speed up testing on evidence in the disappearance of 10-year-old Zahra Baker.

Some of that evidence includes a mattress unearthed in a landfill and a bone found in a wooded area near where Zahra’s prosthetic leg was found.

cousin visits elisa baker today:
WSOC:

The woman, who did not want to give her name, is Elisa’s first cousin. She is one of the few people outside of attorneys who have spoken with Elisa inside the jail.

“I'm not going to comment about that,” the woman said when asked if she thought Elisa should be in jail.

Then: “I don't think she is the only one who should be in jail.”

Zahra was reported missing on Oct. 9. Elisa Baker has been in jail during most of the investigation into the 10-year-old’s disappearance. She was charged with felony obstruction of justice after police said she admitted to writing a fake ransom note.

“She's not doing well at all,” the visiting cousin said. “She's trying to find the truth.”

The woman said she and other family members are grateful for all the work police have done so far in the case.

“This is very, very sad for us,” she said. “Our first concern is finding Zahra. That's the very first. The second is finding out the truth, because we don't know the truth, either.”

One month. One month ago, today, and still NO arrests for Zahra's death. I hope LE has more than they are releasing, as not to jeopardize the case.

The wheels of justice seem slow. I pray for swift justice.

i think if the bone they sent out is confirmed to be Zahra's, another arrest will follow. there is no point in arresting adam baker until they have something solid which will KEEP him locked down.
there is no doubt in my mind they have a lot more than they are telling the public.

i am wondering about one thing re: the bone. if they suspect it is human, and i know they did a tight grid search, why has the area not been sealed off? remember when Caylee's skull was found? that area was sealed. i don't know if that says they found MORE than was revealed, or they feel they got everything. the area is rife with deer bones from what i have read, it's a dumping ground. SOMETHING about that bone stood out.

Hickory Record:

“A rush has been put on any evidence relating to this case,” said Capt. Thurman Whisnant with the Hickory Police Department. “The SBI made it priority No. 1. The bone is of key importance. I know they’re working on it right now.”

In addition to the bone, investigators recovered additional evidence from Christie Road, although Whisnant declined to comment on what it was.

More than two-dozen investigators searched to find the possible evidence along the road last week. In addition to looking through thick trees and brambles, they also had to wade through manmade hazards.

The area along the stretch of road where law enforcement searched bares the stench of rotting animals by the creek the parallels the road, and garbage is frequently dumped along the road — plastic garbage bags, fast food cups, cans, bottles, tires and other trash.

On Monday, there were several pink flags where investigators had marked evidence. A few white flags were planted where law enforcement had found bones. Farther into the woods, a few trees had branches with neon green ties on them, with the ends of the branches snapped off.

Even with the priority order on the evidence, Whisnant said the public must be patient.

“Even with a rush, it’s not what you see on (the TV show) ‘CSI,’” he said. “We’re looking for any kind of confirmation on whether it’s a human bone, and if we can extract a DNA profile.”

Whisnant said the bone would be examined against “known things,” but would not go into specifics about what DNA would be used to compare the evidence to determine if it matched Zahra’s.

He confirmed that Hickory police and SBI agents have finished examining Christie Road and the Baker house in Hickory. However, he said there are several other potential sites that investigators are still considering. Whisnant would not comment on specifics.

I'm with you LC. Something about that bone stood out and my bet is going on human. It's the same area where they found the prosthetic leg, correct? Makes sense to me. The police are being wise by not revealing too much before they make an arrest. I'm betting they want to make sure they have enough solid evidence before they cuff those two assholes. The fact that want something to compare it too also leads me to believe they have something they can extract DNA from. But what do I know? lol

they have plenty of Zahra's DNA, from the house...as well as a sample from her bio-mom i believe.

Which leads me to believe that what they have can be tested for DNA. Doesn't that make sense? I know I'm being an armchair detective but I'm going to say it's a human bone and it's big enough to be tested. Why would they test an animal bone? You know what I mean? What do you think LC?

this is only a guess. something was unique about that bone. it may have been obviously human. they may have needed a pathologist or anthropologist to confirm that. but they need some marrow/cells to get DNA out of it.
