Is it ok...

.. To take pictures of dead people in caskets?

I haven't been to many funerals, so I'm not sure if it's a normal thing to do. I understand if it's the immediate family, but random people at the funeral taking pictures of them in their casket, or posing with them?

My uncle died last Friday and his service was yesterday. He was in a really bad car accident, the left side of his head was pieced together, they almost couldn't have an open casket. A couple hours later, my step mom is sending me pictures of my cousins posing next to him in the casket (smiling).

Then, last year my husband's niece died (3 months old) and one of the dad's friends came up and asked if he could take a picture of her. WTF? I think that is so rude. Why would anyone want a picture of a dead child? So they can look at it later and remember this horrible moment? So they can take it to other people and show them?

I guess I just find it weird..

*shudders* It's for reasons like this that I want a closed casket. The ick factor is huge with taking posed & smiling photos. Damn.

I want a closed casket, but I guess I wouldn't really give a shit if people wanted to pose for pictures with my dead ass. It's not like it would be hurting me any, it is a little creepy though.

I just want to be cremated. I don't want to have a viewing. People look completely different dead. I don't want people looking at me saying that I look good for being dead.. Ugh...

I know it's a "southern thing"...My grandfather passed away before I was born, but - thanks to the creepy southern tradition, I was fortunate enough to see one photo of the mean bastard!

i don't know why i took discreet photos of my parents in their caskets. i can't bear to look at them. but nobody was posing with them.

I don't want to see anyone dead in their casket. To see someone like that would override whatever wonderful mental image I have of them & my only memory of them would be reduced to seeing them dead & laid out. Screw that.

I found an entire album of dead people in caskets once. Kinda creepy, thats what people did at the turn of the century.

I just don't understand why people would want to pose next to them. I would feel so disrespected if one of my children died and someone came up and asked to take a picture of her. Especially someone of no relation.
