Maybe I'm wrong in this, but I expect my doctor(s) to be in relatively decent shape. I don't expect them to be obese, smoke cigarettes, drink too much, or be otherwise noticeably unhealthy. There may be certain specialties where it's ok to be portly (I don't care if a pathologist is chubby).
I also have the same expectations for first responders (police, fire, emt, soldiers).
Are there certain jobs you shouldn't have if you are too unhealthy? The military will kick you out if they "tape" you and you don't improve within a certain period of time. Who wants to carry a wounded fatty for miles to rescue them? Should we have the same rules for our medical professions and first responders?
Would this dude have to shoot you to catch you?
Would you go to this guy for advice about losing weight?
I would let this lady take my weight and check my blood pressure. Because surely she wouldn't dare say a damn word:
Could this guy carry me down the stairs without having a heart attack? (Shut up, Dick. I already know how you will answer this.)
Hahahahahaha!
Would this guy get halfway to the burning building and say, "Fuck it."
You want this guy in the helicopter with you?
Hey! How did this get in here?
hahaha
Is it wise to make yourself a bigger target?
It isn't good to be fat in the desert. It just isn't good.
What exactly is your message?
This is just wrong:
I don't really care what people do to their own bodies, their choice, but I have to wonder if some people are in the wrong profession. You can hide a pack of cigs, but you can't hide a fat ass.
Or am I an asshole? What do you think?

Ooohhhh Gawd. The one in the pink dress has oozing fat.
Runaway fat!
There should be standards. Practice what you preach in the health profession. Cops should be able to chase the bad guy, stuff like that.

Should we be able to fire people from public service because of their health like the military can? If we do this, will they automatically get disability benefits because they are too fat to work?
It pisses me off that obesity is a reason to make the rest of us pay for your disability benefits. WTF? You eat yourself into such a state that you can't walk and the rest of us have to pay for it? That seems wrong to me. Same for drunks and druggies. Same with smoking if you are below a certain age (they used to tell you cigs were good for you, so old people get a pass on that). If you were born in the 80's, no smoking illness related disability benefits for you!

If that were my wife, I would join the French Foreign Legion to get away.

I know it seems like I have a problem with fat people, and I guess I kinda do. I have a complete lack of understanding for it. I'm not talking about an extra 50 lbs if you are a woman or an extra 75 lbs if you are a man. People put on weight if they aren't careful. I fight with a few extra pounds, too, when I'm not careful. I understand gaining a few. I don't think I would allow myself to gain 50 extra, but I can see how that happens if you are having a hard time with something in your life.
What I DON'T understand is being a hundred or three hundred pounds overweight. I don't watch everything I eat. I love to cook and eat. If I get too fat for my clothes, I stop chowing down for a month or two and exercise more. I don't know how someone can eat soooo much (if I eat what I eat and only gain 5 or 10 in a year, you have to eat a fucking elephant to gain hundreds of pounds) that they can no longer function normally.
If we are paying someone for a public service that involves our safety, we should maybe be able to have limits on the condition of their health.

My obgyn is an old overweight Jewish man, but he's delivered over 10,000 babies so I don't care if he likes to eat and his cholesterol is through the roof. I do think first responders should be in good physical shape, however.
Kinda off topic, but I've noticed lately that the majority of smokers seem to be old people, like 60 plus.

I will take your word for it sir.

i remember discussing the FAT cop in another thread a while back...that would not have been allowed on my Sheriff Dept.
you need back-up that can be relied upon do whatever is required. also, we had in-service torture...er....training, all the time. that level of obesity would preclude being able to do the in-service. or the job.

I Know Ohio sucks for so many reasons, but...the police forces here are very strict on their weight (at least the Ohio State Patrol and Ohio Sheriff Department). I work with both agencies and have become pretty close friends with a couple. One male friend worked for the Sheriff Department and was on the "fat list". I thought he was lying, but he honestly had so long to drop to the allowable weight. He wasn't like above photos - Just very "thick".
I guess we have to have lean officers to be able to chase down all the stupid criminals in this state?!

ALL police officers should be lean & fit. What the hell is a 300 lb. lard ass going to do when the bad guys are so much more agile than they are? Oh hey, maybe THAT'S why they shoot so many unarmed people.

A bullet IS faster than a walking Dunkin Donuts advert.
I always think of Clancy Wiggum when I think of fat cops.
