A three-year-old boy is missing in the Sparwood area of Elk Valley. Kienan Hebert was reported missing from his family's home, located in the Sparwood Heights area just off of Hwy 43 North on Wednesday morning, and RCMP believe he walked away from the home sometime overnight. He was discovered missing at 8:30 a.m. this morning.

Kienan Hebert has short blond hair, and is wearing 'Scooby Doo' cartoon boxer shorts. RCMP believe he may also be carrying up to three blankets with him.

There is currently a large search underway, including local RCMP, Search and Rescue, an RCMP Air Services helicopter and a police service dog.

It’s believed a young Sparwood, B.C. boy reported missing Wednesday morning may have wandered off in his sleep.

Kienan Hebert, 3, was reported missing by his parents after he was nowhere to be found about 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.

“The child is known to have a history of sleepwalking but has never left the residence,” said RCMP Cpl. Dan Moskaluk.

RCMP searched the family’s home high and low but to no avail.

Helicopter and K-9 unit were searching the Sparwood area Wednesday but as of 1:30 p.m., the boy had not been found, said Mosklauk.

Kienan, who has short blond hair, was wearing Scooby-Doo boxers when he disappeared and may have a blanket with him.

mountainous and coal mines.

Sparwood

Sparwood, British Columbia
Tucked away in some of the most rugged terrain in the heart of the Elk Valley, and amongst the densest wildlife populations in North America, is the paradise town of Sparwood. The second largest centre on the Elk River, Sparwood has an amazing history, although it is one of the youngest towns in British Columbia.
Sparwood, BC

Elk Valley cuts deep into the Rocky Mountains, and in its center lies Sparwood, named for the nearby trees used as spars for ships. Sparwood is as well known for its abundance of wildlife as it is for the 260 ton Terex Titan, the world's largest dump truck. A visit to Sparwood isn't complete without touring Elkview Mine, one of Canada's largest open pit coal mines.

how far could this little boy have gone??

Neighbour Nila Alaric lives on Cypress Drive, close to the Heberts, and said over the phone at 4 p.m., "I can see people searching everywhere right now."

The mother of two infants said the neighbourhood is bordered by forest and she has seen cougars, black bears, turkey, deer, moose and elk.

"At night, if it's after 8 p.m. I'm thinking about the bears," Alaric said.

Frank Hughes is a local realtor who has worked with Kienan's dad Paul - who sells homes for another company.

Hughes said the family has six children and lives on the new Whiskey Jack golf course.

He said he was showing a house in the neighbourhood this morning when he saw Mr. Hebert and then joined the search for Kienan.

He said the authorities soon took over the search, but many people in the small town are hoping to find the little boy.

"The locals in Sparwood - it was amazing how quickly they responded," Hughes said. "There's an awful lot of people still looking up there."

Derek Scherer, a spokesman for Sparwood Search and Rescue, said the search leaders are currently in the command centre discussing where to go from here.

"We've done a fairly thorough search and a big circumference around the house," Scherer said.

He said this included a shoulder-to-shoulder search for about 600 metres.

"We have upwards of 200 volunteers searching," Scherer said.

here's what i found on this Hopley bastard:

Posted 1 year ago

On a cool spring day, a Calgary couple made a shocking discovery in a rural area of Sentinel in Crowsnest Pass.

Coming to their cabin after a lengthy eight-month absence, they found they couldn't unlock the gate. Despite a "private property" sign posted nearby, it appeared someone had replaced the padlock.

Walking to the cabin on foot, the pair saw two vehicles, a camper, quads, a TV antennae, generators, propane tanks, car batteries and other items scattered around the yard. When they'd left the property in September 2009, it was completely empty including furniture.

At the door, an unknown dog and an unknown male greeted them.

On May 16, Crowsnest Pass RCMP were called to the scene and made other uneasy discoveries.

As the police approached the cabin, after cutting through the padlock, they located and arrested one male who was in his vehicle trying to leave the scene.

Police approached the cabin and found a large number of batteries from cars and heavy-duty equipment, generators, propane tanks, and coolers of food in nearby Crowsnest Lake.

Upon entering the cabin, police noticed a strong smell of propane. Two propane tanks were open in the cabin and a small fire had been started in a wood stove. The fire department attended and ensured the scene was safe.

The cabin was fully furnished and the intruder had connected power and water to the dwelling. A variety of sexual paraphernalia was also located.

Police have since discovered that most of the property was stolen and are attempting to find the lawful owners.

Electronic items were seized from the property and are being investigated for illicit information or images.

Randall Peter Hopley, 45, of Sparwood, was arrested and charged with break and enter with the intent to commit mischief, unlawfully in a dwelling house and possession of stolen property.

Hopley appeared in Pincher Creek Court on Tuesday, May 25 and was remanded in custody until June 8.

The investigation into the stolen property is ongoing.

In 2008 Hopley was sentenced to 18-months in jail for a break-in that occurred the previous fall in Sparwood.

He was also charged with one count of unlawful confinement and one count of abduction but these two charges were dropped due to a lack of evidence.

The charges stemmed from an incident where the main witness was a 10-year-old boy who was described as being a high-needs mentally challenged child. The boy told his foster mother Hopley had broken into the home and on two occasions, tried to push the lad out of his bedroom window.

Hopley claimed he tried to abduct the boy from foster care and transfer him to his biological parents for $2,800.

In the wake of the break-in a search warrant of Hopley's residence revealed pictures of the boy, a suitcase of children's clothing, some of the boy's medication and GoodNites (underwear for children with bedwetting problems).

Hopley has had 11 previous break-in convictions as well as having been found guilty of a sexual assault in 1985.

May 22, 2011

A Sparwood man appeared in court in Cranbrook Wednesday after being held in the Kamloops Regional Correctional Facility.

“It’s pretty unusual that someone wouldn’t be held locally to await trial,” said Const. Sheena Fulton of the Elk Valley RCMP.

The Elk Valley RCMP arrested Randall Peter Hopley last month.

They received a call on April 27 that Hopley was suspected to be in violation of his bail ordered conditions.

The RCMP located Hopley and he was arrested. He went before a judge and was remanded in custody in Kamloops.

Fulton said that Hopley has caused quite a bit of trouble locally.

Hopley appeared Wednesday for a charge of assault, and three charges of failing to comply with court ordered conditions.

Since May 2002, Hopley has been found guilty of two breaking and entering charges, and a charge for theft of $5,000 or under.

He was also arrested in the Crowsnest Pass in May 2010 after he was found living in someone else’s cabin and was in possession of several stolen items including ATVs, trailers, a camper, generators, vehicle batteries, gas tanks, propane tanks, electronics equipment, food, and furniture.

i'd like to know how this went from the baby wandered off to a suspected abduction so quickly. damn it to hell. this guy appears to be the village psycho. how did he get the child? if he did.

previous dropped child abduction charges:

Given that he has tried to abduct from inside a home before, it's quite possible this little guy didn't wander out after all.

Wonder if he left something in Kienan's room, and that's how they linked this?

RCMP “There’s a history that Kienan does sleepwalk, but in past incidents, he’s never exited the house. Other than that, there’s not much else (to explain his disappearance).”

Cpl. Moskaluk said officials decided to look at issuing an Amber Alert around 5:30 p.m.

He said he couldn’t answer why investigators identified Mr. Hopley as a person of interest.

“I don’t know what the connection is ... I just get apprised as to okay, yeah, we’re going to be able to go this route.”

However, Cpl. Moskaluk did say Mr. Hopley is currently on probation with conditions and is residing in the Sparwood area.

Moskaluk said Hopley should speak to investigators once he becomes aware police are looking for him.

He also said the ground search for Kienan will continue.

photos previous page.

video here with father speaking. his demeanor is quite calm.

Hebert described his reaction when he and his wife realized their son was missing on Wednesday morning.

"As any parent, when you see your kid missing, it's not a funny feeling, you know. It's a sick feeling, you know. It's a sick feeling in your gut, and we knew what we needed to do. It was 911. Let them do their job," he said.

search has expanded into Alberta and Washington State.

Vancouver Sun

SPARWOOD, B.C. — From the thick underbrush surrounding the half-completed mountain suburb of Sparwood Heights, all that can be heard is the sound of a dozen trekking feet and a lone female voice wailing: "Kienan. Mommy loves you," again and again.

It's a trigger word, explained Simon Piney, one of the managers of the search-and-rescue effort trying to locate three-year-old Kienan Hebert.

"Kids are often scared by strangers, so if he hears a bunch of people crashing through the woods yelling: 'Hey, Hey, Hey.' He's more likely to hide," Piney said.

Fears for the safety of the missing B.C. boy grew on Thursday as the search continued for Kienan and the sex criminal being linked to his disappearance.

Kienan disappeared overnight Tuesday from his home in Sparwood, a southeastern B.C. town near the Alberta border.

Crews have expanded their search, aided by helicopters, dogs and groups of volunteers, while police continue to look for Randall Hopley, an area man with an extensive criminal record for assault, sexual assault and 12 break-ins.

The effort has all but shut down the tiny mountain town as residents pulled out their boots to aid in the search.

The Hebert house sits in a partially developed zone near Sparwood, just off Highway 43, surrounded by treed mountains and the nearby soot-stained coal mines. Sparwood Heights is still a mixture of new, empty homes, dirt lots and the occasional patch of perfect lawn. The Hebert house, where plastic toys sit unused in the unfenced backyard, is now circled by yellow police tape.

Local residents have been warned not to speak to the media, whose satellite trucks have flooded the barren suburb. WHY NOT??

Piney said local search and rescue teams have already scoured the most obvious places little Kienan could be hiding — empty attics, basements, fields and trees. A fire truck made the rounds Wednesday night with its lights flashing.

"Little kids love fire trucks," explained another search and rescue manager, Ed Ehrler.

i never trust eyewitnesses, but if there is video, it means he was/is still alive. i hope so!!

CTV News
Thursday Sep. 8, 2011 6:48 PM PT

On a day when hundreds of volunteers helped the RCMP search for a missing three-year-old British Columbia boy, a source told CTV News that the child was spotted with a suspect in the case.

Late Thursday, a source told CTV News that police have surveillance video that shows three-year-old Kienan Hebert in the company of Randall Peter Hopley.

While police have not confirmed that claim, they will say that they are gathering security video from businesses and highways in the region.

FUCK! he set up his landlord for an extended absence.

Hopley's landlord Orville Sheets told CTV News that the suspect left his rented trailer sometime between 8 and 9 a.m. on Wednesday, and said he was on his way to a court date in Pincher Creek, Alta. He says Hopley had paid two months' rent and cleaned up his room before leaving.
