Ok, so everyone talked about their dysfunctional families they had to deal with on Thanksgiving - what are you dreading about Christmas?
I for one am dreading the annual guilt I will get from my Dad/Stepbitch about not spending Christmas day with them. You'd think they'd get the hint that I like my Mom better after twenty-something years, no?
I dread doing an open house on Christmas Eve at my house complete w/ baked stuff shrimp and prime ribs so that my welfare, white trash in-laws can come, scarf all the food down, make plates to go and leave my kids the fucking dollar store gifts they got them. Fucking losers.
Anyone else?

After dealing with "The Guests Who Wouldn't Leave" on Thanksgiving, hubby and I will be glad to just stay home alone.

Well - my BIL & SIL are of the homoerotic persuasion........ I love them - they are the only ones of my in-laws I do love. They make everything funny. I usually steal away with my BIL and we get shitty and make fun of everyone. It's all rainbows and sunshine when I'm with him. We always joke that he is his brother but, with a better fashion sense. Oh and of course his brother is attracted to me. BIL is only attracted to me when we get shitty and dance at the gay club! Heeeeeeeyyyyyyyy. He helped me pick out my undergarments for my wedding - is that not the shit?

My one and only saving grace, QB is that my hubby and I made a rule about 5 yrs ago that we don't leave on Christmas day. We stay in our jammies with the kids and let them play w/ their stuff and eat the leftover shrimp etc..

Works for me, DMP. Well, the jammies and shrimp part. We don't have kids.

Well - you are more than welcome QB. Condition: presents for kids must be bought at Five Below at least and NOT the dollar store.

I bitched about this in another thread. My sister wants me to bring the family down to So. Cal. to meet up with her and her kids and my mom. My husband's family want us to stay home. Rock meet hard place. My sister had the NERVE to pull the "I don't know if mom will be around another Christmas" card. I feel like the middle of a tug a rope. Grrr.

Better go see Mom. You're hubby will get over it, and it may be your mothers last Christmas.
Just my 2 cents with my father in law in the hospital for the past week now.

I could care less about spending time with family on Xmas day but it's big with the new GF. She's having some trouble with her losses in recent years, while I am continually surprised when I find out certain members of my family aren't dead yet. I'm still working the day but took several days off afterward. No extended family on my side but we'll see her sis and kids for sure. My boy will be with me but he's in full teen mode so I won't see much of him.
Thank god I am oblivious to the opinions of others while caught in the blinding splendor of my own cleverness.

I'm not dreading anything. I'm looking forward to the peace & quiet, eating seafood and spending the day doing only what I feel like doing when I feel like doing it.
I got a Christmas card from the former Mrs. Cowboy, she has invited us for drinks. I am a bit unnerved.

Didn't she say her sister said 'Mom might not be here another Christmas'?
So she basically has to choose between her husbands family and her mom/sister in SoCal?
Did I miss something? I'd I did, sorry.

You said her husband would get over it when he hasn't been the one to put her in the position of having to make a choice. He wasn't mentioned at all other than to say "his family".

My mom isn't ill and her mom is 99 now. My husband is as likely to lose someone in his family as I am mine.
It's stupid. My mom was here for a week in Oct. My sister just wants to put our kids together.

What do your kids want to do? Do YOU want to go down? I say if not, don't go. Too much time is wasted doing things we don't want to do. Do what makes you happy and what's best for your family.

This is my biggest pet peeve with Christmas. My son is 4 and for the past 3 Christmases we have woken up, quickly opened gifts, and rushed off to my in-laws to have breakfast and open gifts. I've told my husband every year that i just want to be able to stay home and enjoy our morning instead of rushing around. I gave in the past few years but I told him this year, we don't leave the house on Christmas. Whoever wants to stop by can, but we won't be leaving. He hasn't broke it to the in-laws yet, that should be exciting.

My kids love So. Cal and would go there at any opportunity but we're not going (so I'll stop harping about it). She made plans to go (which is great; I'm very glad my mom will have the company) but somehow she presumed we would go too. Not gonna happen.

That's true for me sometimes. I hope that your Christmas wish for your brother comes true, rams.
I'd actually love to see my family over Christmas. But, I visited So Cal for Thanksgiving and my older sister is getting remarried in Arizona on New Years Eve. No way I can afford the expense or time away from work to fit a Christmas trip in between.
Still okay, will get a lot done over the Christmas holiday and catch up with friends locally.
