i just read article posted about Nancy Lanza; it doesn't look like she did try to get help for her son and putting her collection of guns in
his hands is difficult to understand. I agree, she would be equally guilty of this tragedy given the information published so far.
Denial of the problem means she enabled it to happen.

You all are very quick to judge this lady without really knowing what she did or didn't for her son or what the true story is. The media has made a lot of false reports thus far. Maybe we should wait until we get the whole story. If we ever do that is.

JB is right. The media needs to pull up stakes. Not entirely but I can't count how many CNN anchors are there. Wolff, Erin, Brooke, Anderson and more (and all the associated crews). Time to pare down and get the hell out.

Today we had a meeting at school about safety, police came in to comfort us teachers and review our safety procedures.
Here's what I don't get. All entrances are open from approximately 8:15AM to 9AM. School starts at 9, kids are allowed in at 8:45. Also, in my kindergarten room our procedure if a gunman were to enter the building, we are to lock the classroom door and have all kids and ourselves (teacher, teacher ast & para) sit on the rug in the middle of the room. I said what about the bathroom (there is a bathroom in our classroom) can we hide in there? It would seem near in possible, as there are 25 children and 3 adults in our classroom. No. We sit on the rug. We also have a fire escape door, located in our classroom. We are not allowed to exit those doors either.
I don't care about the rules, if this happens I will be gathering as many kids as I can and running to my car. How is it safe to sit on a rug waiting for the killer to leave? I don't get this safety procedure. It makes me nervous. I also cannot believe I feel so unsafe at work now.
This entire situation makes me so sick to my stomach. Parents are allowed to come eat with the kids, as well. We have at least 1-2 parents come in a week to eat with their kiddos.
Gun control seems to be a huge topic in this forum. My husband is military, he also hunts. This doesn't mean he's going to shoot down an elementary school. I think mental health needs to be much more accessible. I think inpatient treatment needs to be more privy to our culture. I think parents, and people in general need to stop being so hush hush when they think something isn't right, or normal. I think people need to raise their voices and stop hiding in embarrassment.
Normal people don't just choose to shoot down 20 children. There has to be some sort of sign, right?

Hi Harvey. I have a kindergartner.
I'm sorry you feel unsafe in your workplace. It's very unfair.
As a teacher, would you feel safer if:
A) You and the staff were armed?
B) There was a permanent Law Enforcement Officer stationed at the school?
C)Other? (an idea of your own)
Thanks for coming here and speaking about this.

Some news outlets are saying this is the case and was carrying his brothers i.d.
I was speculating to myself that might have been the case.
Wasn't the kid in Oregon 20 years old too?
Violent video games have been out for about 10-15 years now. I'm not saying that's the sole reason, or even A reason for carnage being committed by young people, but it does seem like more than just a coincidence...
I'd be interested to hear from friends and family members if either of these guys were known to play violent video games for hours on end.
From today's (12/18) edition of the DailyMail:
Did violent video game Call of Duty spark gun-crazed loner's killing spree? Adam Lanza 'spent hours with game just like Anders Breivik'
Windowless basement was covered in posters of guns and military hardware
One poster showed guns from the 40s onwards another was of tanks
Mass killers Anders Breivik and Mohammed Merah also played the game
Killer: Adam Lanza is believed to have spent hours playing Call of Duty before carrying out the massacre at Sandy Hook
Sandy Hook gunman Adam Lanza was 'obsessed' with weapons and violent video games such as Call of Duty, it has been claimed.
The walls of his room, where he spent all his time, were covered with posters of guns and tanks, according to a plumber who worked at the killer's home in Newtown, Connecticut.
Peter Wlasuk, 45, said the windowless basement, where Lanza's older brother had lived previously, was all but self-contained with computers, a TV, a bed, and a bathroom.
He told The Sun that one poster displayed guns from as early as the 1940s and another showed every piece of equipment ever made by the U.S.
Mr Wlasuk said: 'The kids who play these games know all about [guns]. I'm not blaming the games for what happened. But they see a picture of a historical gun and say, "I've used that on Call of Duty".'
The Call of Duty games have been linked to other mass killings including the Norwegian massacre by Anders Breivik and murders at a Jewish school in Toulouse by Mohammed Merah.
Breivik said he spent up to 16 hours a day playing the game in preparation for the attack.
He said he became a deadly marksman by honing his gun skills on the Modern Warfare part of the series.
He even bought a special gun sight used on the game, attaching it to the hunting rifle he used for his deadly rampage on Utoya.

I'm hearing reports of fake FB pages being set up/people intentionally posting false information, pretending to be the shooter etc. LE is threatening prosecution.
Basically sounds like the case is getting trolled.

So, it is a bit unclear. Is it the plumber who says Adam Lanza played Call of Duty a lot? And if so, how the hell would the plumber know? And what kind of fucking basement is not windowless? It is a fucking basement. Of course, it is windowless.

That was Breivik who said that.
Pretty interesting huh?
Norway doesn't have gun ranges or the like (I'm assuming) since guns are banned in that country.

It's still pretty funny. I have this vision of my son playing with his little controllers with the squares and triangles on them and somehow transferring that in to becoming a deadly marksman.

Now the latest I just heard is that mom was set to start psychiatric evaluations for shooter and that's what sent him over the edge.
He smashed his personal computer allegedly, in anticipation of LE looking at it.
So now it would appear mom was trying to do the right thing.
She just didn't get rid of the guns.

Are these really shocking revelations? Or unexpected?
Are you two really offended?
And, no, Ramsey I'm sure she didn't have any idea what he was capable of.

I would feel safer if there were only 1 entrance allowed to be used in the morning. I would also feel safe if there were a police officer at every school, no matter what. Politics, crime and money aside. I wish there were a law informing armed police officers to be in every single school.

No. I'm just reserving my opinion until I hear from the housekeeper. Or maybe the garbage man.

There has been a plan at my kids school for this kind of stuff for a few years I have just been re-assured by the school principle. At 8:45 all the doors are locked and the main entrance has an alcove that any visitor has to stand in until security buzzes them in. They actually have a guy that will ask pertinant questions before letting them in. He also reviews records and does a report every day on who visits and keeps a sign in log. I'm not sure if he has a gun and she would not say yes or no. I have seen him before and just thought he was a teacher. I hope he has a gun.
Also I thought this principal was a man for an entire year, she is lesbian and is very rigid and militaristic. She takes no shit from the kids and they listen to her. Although she is short legged and stalky she can sure bark orders and they are obeyed. She had me jumping at the end of that meeting.
He ain't heavy, he's my brother.

I had to take my kindergartner to school this afternoon as my wife is visiting her ill father an hour away.
Obviously, I was curious as to how the security measures would be in light of what happened last week.
As I approached the main entrance with my 5 year-old, wearing his backpack and bundled in his winter clothes, I thought how sweet and innocent an elementary school is.
This is the first step out of the nest for little people. A place where they garner a little independence, make friends, learn, and develop into the individual they'll become.
I got to the main entrance, and to my surprise, my son's teacher was with his class in the foyer area. They were all sitting down (15 or so of them), listening intently to a story she was reading.
She had a big smile on her face as she waved at me and greeted my son.
As I left them there all I could think of is, 'What would possess someone to carry out an act of such evil proportions as occurred last week?' 'What was so terribly wrong in their lives, that even thinking of doing that crossed their mind?'
Unfathomable...
