There used to be an assault weapon ban in the US was there a massive clamour for them when they were banned? If there was it just goes to show you how many gun nuts there are in America.
As for the last part of your post? PMT is a bitch!
I'm not sure why you think gun ownership affects my level of trust for our government. It doesn't have anything to do with that. I think they are sneaky, disingenuous lying liars who will lie at the drop of a hat. I can say that about my government but I wouldn't like it at all if you did given you're British.

I would consider both FU and Six gun nuts. FU has a freaking gun rack on his headboard for Christ's sake and Six said that while he keeps his guns hidden he does not lock them in a safe when his grandchildren are there.

I wonder if the founding fathers could have predicted drones, the PRISM program or x-ray scanners at airports. We give up certain rights every damn day in the name of safety. I don't know why gun rights should be so damn sacrosanct.

Any chance of a German invasion of the UK completely ended after the battle of Britain a battle America played no part in whatsoever. While the UK were fighting this battle the yanks were saying “uncle Adolf? He aint so bad!” The krauts completely and utterly lost the air war in Britains skies ending forever any hope they had of successfully invading the UK. It wasn't until the nips raped your ass at Pearl Harbour that you showed any interest in taking any part in WW2. The UK completely selfless in declaring war after the Nazi invasion of another country the US completely selfish in declaring war on its own terms as fucking usual.
Your supposition that if the krauts hadn't invaded Great Britain the ruskies would have is more completely speculative bullshit.
You were reluctant to take part in and late for two world wars in a row we paid you billions in compensation for your gung ho GI cannon fodder. We owe you precisely fuck all.
Your ignorance is again on full display in this thread. It's a shame your educational system failed you so dismally. Your anti-Americanism is well engrained.
To characterize the US as cannon fodder or that the European theater was winnable without the US is patently laughable. Material supply of food, oil, and munitions from the US before entering the war was critical to the UK staying afloat... and the industrial output and fighting force after entering was the turning point in the war. While you may not agree, I'll defer to the great Sir Winston Churchill. He knew once the US entered the war it was over for Germany. It's why he lobbied Roosevelt and American leaders to enter the war prior to December 1941; it's also what made him tell his aides that the war was over when he heard the news of the Pearl Harbor invasion.
You should visit some of the small villages that dot western Europe. Most of them have monuments the US and allies who liberated their villages. And most of them to this day still hold memorial services and have high regard for the contribution of the US to the war effort. Your denigration of it is pathetic.
With regard to any sort of gun control debate, you're entitled to your own opinion of course. But you are not entitled to your own facts. Like it or not, we have a Constitution. It protects what the founders considered the natural right of a citizen to have arms. They didn't define it by 'musket' or 'rifle' intentionally... they intended it to be absolute and not restrictive to posterity. Read the drafting and ratification debates and you'll have a much better understanding of the intent and history of our 2 nd amendment. Until then your rantings here are akin to a fish flopping on the dock.
Also, please note that should the majority of the citizens wish to change the Constitution or re-write it completely, they can at any time. There is no movement towards that at all, and until then we have the law as settled.
Finally, you are quite correct that we had an assault weapon ban in the past. It's effect on gun violence reduction was negligible. Additionally when the ban expired, there was no correlated spike in gun violence. Essentially it made absolutely no difference.

Oh...money and the NRA.
They wrote the Constitution and Bill of Rights to protect against the loss of rights and liberty. I don't believe they would approve at all of our modern day government. They believed in limited federal powers and government, and what is going on now is likely the exact opposite of what they intended.
The trampling of the 4 th amendment over the past years is enormously troubling.
As to the 2 nd amendment being sacrosanct? It's not just the NRA who fights for amendment rights. It's groups that fight like hell for the 1 st amendment like the ACLU. It's groups that fight like hell for the 14 th and 15 th amendment like the NAACP. The NRA is just a convenient punch bag on a controversial topic.

I have already said the US helped as part of the allies to liberate Europe in a previous post your own obviously lacklustre education has apparently had a negative effect on your reading comprehension skills.
The point I was making was you didn't, as sixfootersex so verbosely put it, “save our ass” during WW2. We saved our own ass while your wonderful country was naming uncle Adolf as “man of the year” in Time magazine.
The men, materials etc you provided for the march into Europe were very much appreciated but every single thing you provided down to the last bullet and rivet has been 100% repaid for. You gave us nothing for nothing, your wonderful country even put a dollar value on the lives of the American men lost in Europe which we have duly repaid. I do have to once again reiterate we owe you NOTHING.
I wonder if the various villages and towns in Europe have any monuments to the Japanese without whom, let's face it, no US troops would have been there in the first place.
I know all about your wonderful constitution the fact you can change it but steadfastly refuse to do so speaks volumes about the stubborness and pigheadedness of US cirizens in the face of rapidly changing times. The founding fathers had no comprehension, knowledge or understanding of such things to come such as “spree killers”, “high school massacres” or “firearm related deaths involving children having open access to their parents guns”. Maybe, just maybe, they would have had second thoughts about the 2 nd amendment and all its implications in the future?
I'm sure the founding fathers wouldn't have responded to a tragedy like Columbine or New Town with a phrase like “from my cold dead hands!”
So you will have to excuse me, this fish is going to continue to flop and state his opinion. Just so we are also clear on another point, your opinions are about as important to me as a flea on a dogs backside, tis easy enough to scratch.

I heard a rumour that most modern flat screen TVs have technology inside them that enables what you watch to be monitored remotely.
And, get this, the most modern flatscreen TVs have tiny cameras inside that record the viewers as they watch TV!
Scary shit.

Flop flop flop, another perfect example of ignorance.
Bleating on the same point doesn't make it so. I never said anyone owes the US anything, yet you lumped me in with a comment from someone else. Dolt.
And the US gave nothing for nothing? Yet another myopic view of history... postwar rebuilding throughout western Europe was funded via the United States to the tune of over 40 billion dollars by the time it was all said and done. That's 40 billion that didn't have to get repaid BTW. It was an investment in keeping the Russians at bay and getting Europe back into the international trade game again.
But by all means though, keep thinking the US is shit.
And as I have said, you are entitled to your opinion about our internal affairs. It means nothing to me as you have no say in the process or outcome of it... and it is a good day, thank you.

I couldn't care less about what you allegedly built or didn't build in western europe you didn't rebuild or build anything in Great Britain that's for sure.
And anyway after D Day you helped to flatten western europe while driving back the krauts like the rest of the allies when we invaded, why shouldn't you put your hand in your pockets to help rebuild the mess we caused just like everybody else did?
I don't think the US is shit I've holidayed there four times, very nice place, its just a shame some of its citizens can't stop talking shit.

It's a good point that you bring up. I wonder how F.U. and Six feel about the term? Maybe they'll weigh in; I haven't seen them object to that specifically.
I don't think "gun nut" is offensive, but that's me. It's a term that describes firearms enthusiasts that are deeply entrenched in the gun culture and second amendment rights. I think it's an accurate label for Six and F.U. though I'd use "gun enthusiasts" just because it's also accurate without being critical - more in line with my views and style. But, we're all different, so maybe "gun nut" really is offensive to F.U. and/or Six?
Labels. Where would we be without them? When Six labels all people from California fruits, flakes, or ferries, for example, I'm never offended in any way and typically just have fun with the silly stereotyping. It isn't an accurate label for this Californian, but so what? It's a door opener for response mocking.
Now, if I were a black woman from California and Six called me a darlin monkey fruit, spook flake, coon ferry, or any one of the combination of stereotypical labels that he favors, I might be offended for close to 1 second until my brain kicked into gear and I considered the source, then I'd either have a mocking good time with it or just move on.
Maybe I'm just an ignorant, arrogant woman without a brain in my head, or simply missing the sensitivity gene?
I don't consider myself or F.U. to be gun nuts. I have lived with weapons all my life, I trained with them in the military and I consider them a tool, no more or less dangerous than any of the sharp items in various drawers around here or on my bench in the garage. They are a tool with a specific purpose, that's all. As with any other tool they can be used for their designed purpose, of abused for something else. I do travel armed at all times, always have because I grew up in a scary place and have seen what being a vulnerable victim can do. I never want to be that and I am to old and have to many injuries to be rolling around knuckling up with some moron with a knife. I carry to keep me and mine safe, that's it. I don't feel any bigger, badder or more invincible when I carry, but I do feel safer.
I don't sit around stroking my guns, I don't talk to them. I do pull one out now and then and clean it and make sure everything is in working order as it should be, don't want to be standing there in the middle of the night with a rock when some wandering crackhead decides to have a go at my home. I do have weapons hidden around the house, that's so I don't have to carry one around the house with me all the time and yet am still prepared in case that crackhead shows up. The GF knows where they are and also has her own, she isn't well trained with it yet, but knows the safety rules.
There have been many folks in my house and yet no one knows they are there (hidden remember) Also taught my kids not to fuck with stuff that wasn't theirs and they have in turn taught their kids the same things, so I have no reason to worry that they will pick up any of my guns, they can't be seen.
CN calls anyone with an opinion on the Pro side of the gun debate a Gun Nut, Who cares? He is an ignorantly opinionated asshole, fuckem.
I poke fun at California from time to time, its all in fun, spent a lot of time there and had a blast. I don't really think they are any more of less fucked up than anywhere else in the country, I live in S Florida for fucks sake. This place has its own FARK tag.

Children often go searching for stuff in their own house and sometimes touch things even after you've told them not to. It might not necessarily be your gun they're looking for, it could be something else and they just happen upon your gun and an accident could happen. That might be a very slim chance to you, but it's still a chance you're willing to take. I would call that a gun nut.
