walking while black - Trayvon Martin
(07-16-2013, 04:42 PM)username Wrote: On or near Crenshaw Blvd. doesn't say much. That's a long ass boulevard.

ETA: Goes all the way to Palos Verdes where I grew up. No black people there.

You're right.

Checked it out. It was near Leimart Park; southwest district of Crenshaw.

That would have added an element of unpredictability to the story, no doubt.

P.s. Username probably would have considered me one of those people from "the other side of the tracks" when she was growing up. Snob!!!

Is RPV in Long Beach or very near Long Beach?

I'll never forget driving north through Huntington Beach and going over a bridge into Long Beach and thinking, 'holy hell, we're in da hood.'

It probably takes 35 minutes to get to Long Beach. There are "hoods" scattered all over LA. Long Beach has some very nice, pricey areas, (typically near the beaches) and some very shitty areas. Similarly you've got Beverly Hills and as the crow flies, Watts is not terribly far away. That said, all of the communities that actually line the coast are pricey (the closer you are to the beach). Palos Verdes, Malibu, Santa Monica...but as you move inland...well, there's Compton.

I'm glad the trial is over in the respect that I don't feel terribly guilty about this going off topic a bit. Smiley_emoticons_slash

ETA: No, Palos Verdes isn't part of Long Beach. hah

Rancho Palos Verdes is an affluent suburb of Los Angeles. Sitting atop the Palos Verdes Hills and bluffs of the Palos Verdes Peninsula, it is known for expansive views of the Pacific Ocean. The history of Rancho Palos Verdes dates back to the Spanish explorers and the establishment of the first Spanish rancho land grant in California. Its most notable geographic features are the Palos Verdes Hills and cliffs with grand vistas of the Pacific Ocean, and views of Santa Catalina Island.

I loved hearing the foghorn at night from the Point Vicente lighthouse. Catalina island (which I HIGHLY recommend as a vacation destination if you're in Southern California) is in the background.

It seems like no matter what part of America I visit, I end up driving straight into the hood first. The only exception was the four corners.

I'd really like to hear from the remaining women. I want something a little more than a press release.

Four of the jurors at the George Zimmerman trial distanced themselves late Tuesday from statements that another juror made in a televised interview.

The four jurors issued a brief statement on court stationary saying that the opinions expressed by Juror B37 to CNN's Anderson Cooper on Monday night are not representative of their views.

"The opinions of Juror B37, expressed on the Anderson Cooper show were her own, and not in any way representative of the jurors listed below," said the statement, signed by Jurors B51, B76, E6 and E40.

B37 is now saying she wants to be excused from jury duty for the rest of her life.

I wouldn't excuse her but I would BARR her incompotent ass for the rest of her life!

Was that her real voice in the interview? She sounds a bit slow...mentally.

I got such a bad vibe from her, seriously, she gave me the impression that her mind was made up from the very beginning.

If true, then it does appear George DID get a jury (or at least a juror) of his Piers . . . errr . . . peers.

Just like the niggers who wanted a lynching instead of a trial.

They knew George was on a coon hunt, too.

God Bless our American Justice System freeing a guilty man so an innocent man would not be forced to endure injustice by a wrongful conviction.

Oh man, that was a very difficult one to get over.

Speaking of the devil herself, I saw her attorney last night drawing comparisons between George & Casey and life after the verdict.

George will never have a shot at porno.

He suffers from premature discharge . . . so I've been told.

I'd be interested in hearing from some of the other jurors as well. I read in the story that Duchess posted that one of the women wanted to leave the jury at one point but the other women convinced her to stay. I think a few of those women just caved in.

While reading that story, I found a link to another...

The star witness for the prosecution in the Trayvon Martin murder trial, Rachel Jeantel, was offered a full scholarship to any historically black college or university she chooses.

"If you want to graduate from high school, and go to an HBCU, even if it’s not in Florida but especially Florida, like Florida Memorial, Edward Waters or FAMU, if you want to do that, I want to help you do that," radio host Tom Joyner told Jeantel on his show Tuesday morning.

"I will help you get tutors to get you out of high school, tutors to help you pass the SAT, and I will give you a full ride scholarship to any HBCU you’d like," he added.

I don't know why she's referred to as the prosecution's star witness. I don't really think the prosecution had a star witness.

I do too! I don't like thinking that & I don't like believing that's what happened but it's been on my mind since I first listened to the juror.

That's a wonderful opportunity for Rachel and I hope she takes that gentleman up on his offer.

Jurors took an oath . . . and it didn't include changing their mind about participating, wanting to quit and bail. Fucking cunt should have hung the jury instead of whining now!

I'm lovin' the academic offer to attend "colored college" instead of a racially integrated institution.

Healing one wound at a time!
