The story has changed a bit; a little hard to follow in the various reports.

Here's my understanding of how Levon actually came to be reported missing. When Jevon finally told his parents he'd "lost" the baby, they did not immediately call police. Instead, they called a family attorney. The attorney called police.

Levon's mother, Amy, wants both the grandparents and Jevon to take lie detector tests.

Today Jevon Wameling gave his first public account of what happened when he "lost" his son. His (ridiculous, imo) statements and claims seem very much the product of attorney consultation to me. Here's the article:

In a nutshell, Jevon says he loves his son. His son is the best thing he ever did in his life. He felt devastated and ashamed that he lost his son. He understands why Amy is mad. He wants whoever took Levon to bring him back. He tried to find the baby himself by talking to neighbors and such without mentioning the baby (so as not to scare anyone who might have had Levon). Hoping that Levon's POS father is now cooperating with police and that the upcoming search of the landfill is based on solid information.

Police aren't saying what's prompting the landfill search, so it could just as easily be because they've already searched the area near the home and turned up nothing. So, the landfill is the next logical area if they believe that Jevon might have discarded his baby boy in the garbage.

Police have not yet said why they are now turning their attention to the landfill property, which is operated by the Oneida-Herkimer Solid Waste Management Authority about 30 miles north of Utica, or if they have any reason to believe Levon is dead and disposed of in the trash.

Police have been searching for Levon ever since his father, Jevon Wameling, reported him missing on June 11, about two weeks after the 9-month-old boy was last seen on Wameling’s front porch at 748 Jay St. in East Utica on May 29.

I really hope that Levon's body is recovered.

Hate to think of him tossed in the trash, but it's difficult knowing that his father is apparently still not cooperating and walking around free due to lack of evidence.

Some of these poor kids really are dealt a losing hand when it comes to parents.

I don't care about the names of any of them, but the complete lack of parental responsibility is difficult to comprehend and the idiocy is color blind.

Anyway, LE didn't find this little guy at the landfill Thursday or today.


Not sure if they've finished the search though; lots to sift through.

I hope his POS father doesn't get away with whatever it is he did to Levon.

Sadly, not reporting the baby missing, lawyering up, and not cooperating with police was the smartest thing he could do to avoid charges, without a body.

Infant remains were recovered from the Mohawk River on Friday.

Testing is underway to identify them; they are believed to be those of Baby Levon.

Levon's father, Jevon, was finally arrested (on unrelated burglary charges) and it's rumored that he gave up the location of his son's body while in custody. That's not confirmed though.

Looks like both Baby Elaina and Baby Levon can finally be laid to rest by those who love them when their remains are positively identified this week.

Effin' low life parents killing their babies. I hope there's enough evidence to charge Jevon Wameling in the death of his son.

Looks like Levon's father, Jevon, told LE where to find the baby's body (in a container in the Mohawk River).

According to the media, a searcher claims that Levon's mother told her that Jevon claims the baby died in his sleep.

If that's the story that Jevon is pushing, he's a bigger moron than is already clear.

It makes perfect sense that the baby would die in his sleep in the care of an innocent loving father, and the father would then decide to put his son in a container and dump him in the river and tell no one a thing for weeks until deciding to claim the baby was kidnapped.

Doesn't look like the public will know what investigators believe actually went down unless/until Jevon and/or anyone else is formally charged.

On Tuesday, Oneida County D.A. Scott McNamara said that his office would not be commenting publicly on the case in part because of the likelihood of prosecution.

McNamara's statement is reproduced below in its entirety:

The District Attorney's Office will not be offering public comment upon specific information, status of evidence or any other facts or circumstances as we continue to review and evaluate the Wameling case.

Because of the strong possibility of a future prosecution arising out of the investigation, any such commentary at this juncture would be premature, contrary to ethical standards and may have the potential to jeopardize the integrity of any such prosecution. In seeking justice for baby Levon, we shall continue to thoroughly review the entire matter to its conclusion, at which time we shall make such commentary as the law allows."

Remains positively identified as Levon Wameling

Extensive DNA testing by the Onondaga Medical Examiner's office was used to identify the remains, according to a statement released Saturday by Utica Police Sgt. Steve Hauck, public information officer.

"The Utica Police continue to investigate this case, with the hope that the truth will be learned and the person(s) responsible are held accountable," the statement read.

The statement went on to say officials have not yet determined a cause of death. Levon's first birthday would have been August 31.

The baby's father, Jevon Wameling, initially told investigators that Levon was abducted from his front porch. He didn't report the baby missing until Levon's grandmother pressed to see the baby 2 weeks later.

Jevon Wameling is currently in the Oneida County jail on burglary charges.
