I'm a bit late to the discussion... but just to throw my 2 cents in...

I work in a restaraunt and it is unbelievable how many times I go up to a table and before I've even taken anyones drink order, moms got her tit out and baby is just sucking away. Talk about awkward. I see nothing wrong with breastfeeding but does it really need to take place in public places? The other day I had to clean out some woman's nipple pad from under my table! Disgusting. Sorry but I don't want to clean up your crusty nipple pad off the floor... that's just wrong. I understand that your baby needs fed but do I need to look at your boob while I'm asking you how you want your burger cooked? Just because you are comfortable with whipping your tit out in public doesn't mean everyone else is comfortable.

Breastfeeding really helped me get into a routine and everything just fell into place with it. It also lets off this hormone in your brain that is called oxytocin which is like valium, when you breastfeed. You are more relaxed and I think a better mother.

Doesn't bother me if women breast feed in public. But, I know it's a little bothersome to others and don't think it's too much to ask for women to cover up a bit.

Well, unless you live on a clothing optional compound in Hawaii and like to practice Yoga naked while your baby has breakfast. Covering up could really harsh the mojo in that case.

I think this is going way too far and milking the "for the children" rationale for all it's worth and then some. Sucks. IMO.



The Emirates' Federal National Council has passed a clause, part of their new Child Rights Law, requiring new moms to breastfeed their babies for two full years, The National reports. Now, men can sue their wives if they don't breastfeed.

According to the National, there was a "marathon debate" over the legislation, but it was ultimately decided that it is every child's right to be breastfed.

Research has found many benefits of breastfeeding for baby, from reducing the risk of obesity to better language and motor development.

However, not all new moms are able to nurse. In those instances, if a woman is prohibited by health reasons, the council will provide a wet nurse to her. It's unclear exactly how a mother's ability to breastfeed will be determined though.

Marie-Claire Bakker, a member of U.S.-based breastfeeding support group, La Leche League made this statement: “At this vulnerable time, to think of criminalising a new mother who, for whatever reason, is struggling with breastfeeding is not helpful ... She needs informed support, not threats," she told the National.

I'm not one who gets squeamish over public breast feeding, but understand those who do. And, if I were a mother and physically able, I would very likely choose to breast feed - though probably not up til the kid was 2 years old.

Still, those are personal choices for each mother to make anywhere in the world and shouldn't be mandated by law, as far as I'm concerned.

And, a husband being able to sue his wife for refusing to breast feed their baby? Pffft.

Completely different culture, obviously, that's not breaking news. Still, this law being passed did surprise me, for some reason.

I think it's awful that they are being forced to do it but I think it's awful that they are allowed to do it in public too. Ha!

I recently read about a woman who is suing a clothing store because she was asked to do it in a dressing room rather than out in the store where people were shopping. I don't want to see women doing that. It's not like only the ones with pretty hooters are doing it, it seems like it's always a broodmare and frankly if you can't walk around a store with food you shouldn't be able to breastfeed either.
