You think?
"As Washington officials continue to grapple with the fallout from the NSA scandal, it has been revealed that the US Postal Service photographs the outside of every piece of mail it processes each year - around 160 billion pieces annually. At the request of law enforcement agencies, postal workers take pictures of the letters and packages before they are delivered, the New York Times reported. The information is then stored for an indefinite period of time in the event a law enforcement official requests it. Each year, tens of thousands of pieces of mail are subjected to further scrutiny." http://rt.com/usa/us-nsa-mail-spying-706/

Big brother is nosy, no doubt. You gotta be crafty to protect your privacy these days.
For phone and written communications, using an elaborate customized coding system - and forcing all of your family, friends, drug dealers, and business contacts to learn and use it - is the best way to secure one's privacy. The code that I invented is virtually unbreakable. Dna, ti yllaer skrow oot! Revewoh, sti a tib drah rof ym aitnemed stneilc. In person, I whisper everything into the left ear of the person to whom I'm communicating and make them pinky swear not to repeat a word of it to another living soul. And, never ever communicate with more than one person at a time. Eseht era eht tsom eruces syaw ot etacinummoc yadot, OMI.

Pretty much every time I travel by plane now, I find a slip of paper in at least one piece of checked luggage that it was searched. I think they just want to fondle my under garments, assholes.

I've had a few Marilyn moments where wind has whipped a skirt up around my belly button. Commando Cunt Queen

Back in the day, when neither sleet, rain, snow, fire or whatever would not stop mail delivery, that was when it was most secure. Today many snail mail workers are not of the same caliber. It was said that some of the workers actually illegally opened envelopes where they believed money might have been inside. So it may not be so secure as it once was.

The art of letter writing is dying. I've gotten invitations AND thank you notes through email. Many people now believe that kind of thing is acceptable. I don't agree.

I have a caligraghy set I use with different pens sometimes to write groovy letters to people I like. Gothic is my favorite. It will come back, you watch when people get sick of the impersonal approach of e-mail.

I mess around with that stuff in the winter when I'm stuck inside more. Woodburning also.
