I feel sorry for the families that are going to have to suffer through this, unlike those who get to vote for their own pay raise. One of them commented that he had no intention of donating his paycheck, he worked for that money and he had to pay for his nice house & his kids in college.
I hope the workers had the foresight to have savings for a day like this.

I'd like to punch Randy in his fat, stupid mouth. That park ranger should be ashamed because she can't let people in the park?
What a god damn retard.

The administration is trying to let people know in a bad way the government is down. They have even closed the road that you drive through to look at Mt Rushmore. It is overreach by the powers that be to "spread the pain" for no other reason but propaganda.
If there is money to enforce a closure there is money to keep it open, and before anyone says "what if there's an accident?" rescue teams are not funded by the feds.

I just read a quote by a Republican that stated the government will remain shutdown because now it has become a point of pride. Are you kidding me?!
The House GOP's right flank, have refused to back down. Comments made by Rep. Marlin Stutzman (R-Ind.) last week underscore Ross' suggestion that many Republicans believe what's at stake is no longer a matter of policy but one of pride.
"We're not going to be disrespected ... We have to get something out of this. And I don't know what that even is," Stutzman said.

I honestly don't think any of them are thinking about the public any more. I don't think they care about the lives this is affecting.
If any of you disagree with that, speak up, I'm interested in knowing why you think this shutdown is a good thing.

I guess I'm apathetic toward it.
I'm not seeing how it's affecting me and now that it's been announced that all workers will receive back pay, I'm wondering what the hell is really going on?

I agree with you about the yahoos.
House Republicans are making a statement to Obama that his last term will accomplish nothing, as long as they have a say.
Politicians as a whole make me nauseous and I wish they'd just stay out of the news.

Is life different over there without a government? Or is everything just business as usual?

I feel sorry for the animals in the White Mountain National Forest. We rode the kangamangus the other day and stopped at a rest area. The outhouses were all nailed shut With a sign on them that said 'closed due to Government shut down'. All the leaf peepers were having to piss and shit in the woods....poor animals have to deal with people poop now.
I wonder how much this 'shut down' is actually costing us, and by that I mean did we buy all new barricades to put around those open air monuments? Who's paying to feed those dogs that they are using to patrol the Vietnam Memorial? Did they take bids on the nails used to close those outhouses?

Like Ms, it hasn't affected my life at all, I notice no difference. It's affecting people who want to utilize parks & other government run attractions and it's making a big impact on those who work for the government, not all but many.
- no national parks
- no national zoos
- no national museums
- no passports
- no gun permits
- no federal loans
- no trash collection in Washington
There is more but you get the idea.
I'm not as concerned with the shutdown as I am with them defaulting on its debt. That will have the power to affect people on a greater scale. It will have similar consequences to what would happen to your credit if you defaulted on a loan. We don't want that to happen.
It's not the people ruining our country, it's the government.

Prepare yourself - about $1.6 billion a week, $300 million a day, or $12.5 million an hour.

Shit, I had a hammer in the trunk-never even thought to use it. Could saved some old lady from having to use one of those pretty leaves.
I find it totally repulsive that the powers that be chose to close off the open air monuments in D.C. I don't care that the Gov't thinks they own them, they were paid for and built by the people.
They tell 20 year olds to go to some foreign country and look down the barrel of a gun being held by some dude that hates us, while at the same time telling 70 to 90 year old men that they can't visit a monument to honor the fact they faced that same fear many years ago? Fucking outrageous!
