I don't care if people smoke, it's your choice. I let people smoke in my home & around me, the only place I draw the line is in my car, I have "blonde" interior. It's not a deal breaker for me. I just read a story about a town in California that has banned smoking in your own home if you share a wall with another dwelling. Nazis!
The town of San Rafael, Calif., has passed a ban on smoking that city officials have called the most stringent in the nation. The new ordinance makes it illegal for residents to smoke in their own homes if they share a wall with another dwelling. The ban applies to owners and renters alike, and it covers condominiums, co-ops, apartments and any multi-family residence containing three or more units.

Enforcing that is going to be a little difficult don't you think?

I don't like smoking, never have. No smoking in my house or cars, but I have a few friends that smoke, so they do it out back on the patio, I have ash trays for them. Most of the smokers I associate with are pretty good about it. The thing I can't stand is having to walk through the stink to get into a building and the litter.
SO many of them throw their butts on the ground, in the flower beds etc..Rude, Rude, Rude..

Fuck that. If you want to carry out your filthy habit at my home, you do it outside with the animals. I leave an ashtray out there for your convenience.

Not really. If you rent an apartment and there is any evidence of smoking they'll just add a $200 fine to your monthly rent. If you continue to break their rules they'll keep adding fines and eventually evict you. Most of the hotels here now tell you they'll charge a $200 clean up fee to you credit card if you smoke in the room.
If you live in a condo then that's just like living in a subdivision with a home owners association, it doesn't matter if you rent or own outright. You have to pay monthly dues for grounds maintenance and clubhouse pool maintenance. HOA's are a bunch of busy bodies who impose their will on their neighbors. They also impose fines if a homeowner breaks their rules. They dictate what color you can paint your house to how long you can leave your garage door open. Now they're just adding smoking to the list.

I know people who live in places with an HOA and it's like living under someone's thumb. It's amazing to me that anyone would spend hundreds of thousands of dollars for their home and then tolerate being told what they can & cannot do with it. They have to get permission to plant a fucking tree.

I don't understand why anyone would want to buy a million dollar home in a place like that either. And buying a condo is pretty much the same, you agree to follow their rules and if they say no smoking in the building then you cant smoke unless you want to end up in court with a bunch of fines. And you know there will busy bodies sniffing around for smoke at your door.

I would wonder if there were any rules against sliding bigass speakers up against the wall of a busybody neighbor and pumping death metal through there. I'm no smoker, haven't been for years, but "mind your fucking business" really ought to be in the constitution...

I quit smoking a few years ago and will smoke a cigar every once in awhile. I notice the egg smell of cigarettes when I quit but will let people smoke in my game room or garage. People were once apon a time courteous and would ask if it was OK to smoke.
There are smokeless ash trays and if the oven or bathroom vent is working properly I cannot see how a person would get "caught" smoking near them. I bet someone figured out money could be made if the place was advertised as "smoke free" possibly in savings through insurance.

People living on their own private property can do whatever they want, at least for now anyway. Unless of course you buy a home in a community that has an HOA, the property is yours but you agree to follow the communities stupid rules.

A lot of public places you cant even smoke outside anymore, they pay people now just to go around catching people smoking outside.I was at the Indianapolis airport and they had guys going around on those stand and ride scooters doing nothing but telling people to put their smokes out. Complete waste of time and money.

Holy shit. That's fucked up.
When I was a kid a couple older girls introduced me to cigarettes. I didn't really care for it but I thought it was cool to smoke with them. I swiped a pack from my parents, I was still young enough that I was riding a bike and I stashed the stolen smokes in the space under the banana seat, fast forward a bit and I'm outside riding and holler to my Mom to come and see me pop some wheelies, she did and on my first wheelie the smokes shot out from under the seat. It was 100 yrs. ago but I can still perfectly recall that moment and the time I spent grounded afterwards.

We have an HOA now. We can't put in an above ground pool. Has to be in ground. I see the point if the HOA. Keep the neighborhood from looking trashy and grounds maintenance and all that. But I'm not having anyone tell me I need to cut the grass or take the leaves. I'm having a fence put up and I didn't ask anyone if it was ok. It's my house. I pay the bills. Period. Telling someone they can't smoke in a home they own is absurd.

You might want to get the fence approved first, what if they force you to take it down after spending all the money to put it up?

Some if the neighbors have fences so I'm sure it's fine. It's not like I'm putting up a chain link fence.

I've not had a cigarette since I started with my E-cig. Nothing stopped me from smoking, not even open heart surgery in my early 50's. My sister can't even have a clothes line where she lives. Please don't ask what a clothes line is.
