These types of places should be funded by private donors & volunteers. I'm horrified that they even had a party there before it was opened to the public. I don't think what basically amounts to a tomb is the place for fine dining & drinking.

I wonder if I could get a rave going at the Tomb of the unknown soldier. Can you imagine the uproar?
Masking greed in the name of charity is the highest form of crass.

“We’re not doing this for crass or commercial reasons,” said Meyer, adding that a portion of proceeds are going back to the museum.
A rep for Union Square Events added: “We’re just trying to create a thoughtful experience and bring our hospitality [to the museum and visitors].”
Yeah . . . that's how he classifies his lease payment.

It's a disgrace the way they have turned that into a money grubbing venture. Restaurant, gift shop, nothing like fine dining on top of the final resting place of some poor souls.
There are enough philanthropists that would be happy to contribute to such a worthy cause as the upkeep of that museum, they didn't need to take the steps they did.

A fucking cheese plate. Bitch, please.
The National 9⁄11 Memorial Museum has stopped selling a cheese plate amid mounting criticism.
The platter -- designed for mundane cheese-serving purposes -- is in the shape of a map of the continental United States. Three hearts mark the spots where, nearly 13 years ago, terrorists crashed hijacked planes full of passengers into New York’s Twin Towers, the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia and a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
