I believe the termination was an over reaction, by the chief.
This is one for the ACLU.

Not that I'm trying to be inflammatory here, but as an outsider looking in, this shit amuses the hell out of me. To the rest of us, Americans are absolutely fucking famous for making a mountain out of a molehill, dramatizing the fuck out of shit and bandwagon jumping. Sheeeeiiit, Hollywood isn't in America for no reason. If there's a little eency bit of mileage in something, the American will usually find it. It's just even more ironically funnier when y'all get your knickers in a bunch over the drama.

The people of North Charleston responded peacefully only a couple of months back to Officer Michael Slager unloading his service revolver into the back of Walter Scott, who was unarmed and posing no threat. The Chief made no excuses for a clearly wrongful shooting death. While it's not known if race had anything at all to do with the shooting, the Chief represents the whole city and all of its citizens and needs to take into consideration everybody's perceptions. He and the black community leaders met and called for unity; there were no riots, only peaceful protests against police brutality, prayers, and a commitment to work together. If officer boxer-shorts was trying to make a rebellious public statement with disregard for the Chief's and the department's image, policies, and public relations' goals, I don't fault the Chief for considering the officer an insubordinate liability and cutting him loose. If instead the officer claims that he was not intentionally violating the department's policies when he made that public FB post days ago, it was at least ignorant in light of the department's stated mission IMO. Maybe Gloria Alred will volunteer to represent the officer.

I found this a interesting read. Yes I know its Wikipedia and yes I know not everyone believes what is posted there, but I still found it interesting. Short C&P [ vvvv ] I wondered about. Do you think 4 year old stats are still accurate? The Confederate flag is a controversial symbol for many Americans today. A 2011 Pew Research poll revealed that 30% of Americans have a "negative reaction" when "they see the Confederate flag displayed."[35] According to the same poll, 9% of Americans have a positive reaction. A majority (58%) have no reaction. In a 2013 YouGov poll, a plurality (38%) of those polled disapproved of displaying the flag in public places.[36] In the same poll, a plurality (44%) of those asked viewed the flag as a symbol of racism, with 24% viewing it as exclusively racist and 20% viewing it as both racist and symbolic of pride in the region

I like Wikipedia, F.U. As long as the content is cited, like in the piece you posted, it's a good quick source.
Anyway, I don't know if the Pew poll results would be any different four years later, but they didn't surprise me.

Here's what President Obama said about the Confederate flag during his eulogy for Clementa Pinckney in Charleston, South Carolina today.
"For too long we were blind to the pain that the Confederate flag had stirred in too many of our citizens. It’s true a flag did not cause these murders, but as people from all walks of life … we all have to acknowledge, the flag has always represented more than just ancestral pride. Removing the flag from this state’s Capitol would not be an act of political correctness, it would not be an insult to the valor of Confederate soldiers, it would simply be an acknowledgement that the cause for which they fought, the cause of slavery, was wrong. By taking down that flag we express God’s grace.”

He also mentioned that whitey still chooses "Jimmy over Jamal".
I thought it was in bad taste and inappropriate. Guess that makes me a hater.

Not all slaves were unhappy with their lot in life and there were a shit ton of them who didn't have the first clue what to do when they were freed. They suffered more free than they ever did at a plantation house. It pretty much sucked to see the Prez going along with the perverted version of the Confederate flag instead of the true & honest version.

They're waiting for you at the secured Cliven Bundy for President campaign shack Duchess. There's no sense debating your logic and I don't think that's what you're after anyway, you rebel! I'll take my perverted ass out of your thread.

Not necessarily, you probably have all one color, i.e., black or white so when sock goes missing in washing machine, no problem for you.... I have multi colored socks so when one of my socks goes into the "Bermuda Triangle" never to be seen again, I put on any color available. That doesn't make me stupid, just more practical.........

In celebration of the coming laws concerning the flying of the rebel flag I would like to become the first in condemning the colors red and blue. White condemnation is already in the works.
I just saw this and got a kick out of it. Beware country music you are next after NASCAR.
