So Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Jordan (all Sunni countries) signing contracts with Russia for nuclear tech this year is just scaremongering? Because that has actually happened, and it's a direct response to Iran (Shiite).

If you believe Iran - who sit on one of the largest oil reserves in the world - are going nuclear for peaceful electricity generation, I've got some beautiful tropical property to sell you in Siberia.

Also, if you believe Iran - who is a state sponsor of terrorism around the world, who execute homosexuals, and who subjugate women - deserves respect, you might want to reconsider your position.

They will build a weapon, and they or their surrogates will use it. The only hope between now and then is moderate leadership taking over, and that is highly unlikely given the current theocracy there.

Perhaps we should be focusing more on North Korea who already has a nuclear weapon and whose leader is clearly batshit crazy.

I read today that despite this "deal", the U.S. is beefing up our security and military capabilities in the region. I think that's one of the best things we can do...keep throwing a huge amount of our spending at "defense" and always stay miles ahead of those that might threaten us or our allies. If we're going the diplomatic route now, fine, as long as 2, 5, 10 years down the road we are so far ahead of them militarily that their little nuclear weapons look like pea shooters compared to our offensive and defensive capabilities...alrightee then.

How far away from developing a nuclear weapon do you think the Iranian's are (even under current conditions)?

And, I highly doubt that Israel is bound by ANYTHING in that there agreement.

Estimates have been 2-3 months to a year.

Israel is not bound by any agreement, but the US and other signatories are bound by parts of the agreement to assist Iran in safeguarding and protecting its nuclear program.

I think we've already made a huge mess in the middle east...my instincts tell me any military action WE took against Iran would just make a bigger mess.

My understanding of that part of the agreement would not require any nation to militarily defend Iran from attack.

It does appear to limit the signatories from being involved in any effort to thwart the Iranian program in any way however, otherwise there would be no need to even have a deal in the first place.

If Israel wants to deploy another Stuxnet like attack, the US can't be involved or know about it. Per the agreement it looks like we will actually be helping Iran beef up their cybersecurity as well to protect from things like that.

I'd do away with ALL nuclear weapons if I could. Even nuclear energy...it's seemingly an evil necessity but witness what happened in Japan. Not that even THIS would save me/mine, but I wouldn't want to live within 100 miles of a nuclear power plant. No way.

I used to think we over spent somewhat on defense but my opinions are "evolving". It's critical that we stay as far ahead of the pack as possible.
