I will likely be mercy killing my boy this weekend. They upped his dosage for his arthritis meds last week but it hasn't helped. He's stopped eating now. Hasn't had anything but the hot dogs I shoved down his throat last night for the last three days.

That sucks about your boy, Gunnar. How long has he been part of the family?

I'm sorry BG. It's like losing a part of the family. I cried so hard when we had to put Scoobie down. I still miss him.

Sorry BG. Have you tried giving him cheesecake? Dogs love cheesecake more than obese people.

If someone told me they just put their beloved dog Brownie to sleep my first thought wouldn't be "It's euthanized, you dumb bitch. EUTHANIZED!!!"
If we want to be really correct and direct about it, why don't people just say "I just put my dog to death"? We don't say "euthanized" when we're talking about criminals.
In it's own way, "euthanized" is just a step up from "put to sleep" but still not as brutally honest as "I just put my dog to death".
Assholes.

That's exactly what is done but most people can't even say those words, they find it more acceptable to sugarcoat it like every other goddamn thing in their life. People humanize their animals. Hate to break it to all you adults but animals don't think like you do, nor do they feel like you do.

Maybe they know something we don't. I like the way New Orleans citizens treat death. They celebrate the life not the loss of death.

I think they probably do. Domesticated animals don't have the luxury of going off to die in peace. They are often poked & prodded at the end of their life and in many instances kept alive simply because of their owner's feelings.
As I said in the very first post, this isn't something I dwell on, it's just a passing thought when I see it happen. I think it's dumb when people tell their kids their pet is being put to sleep and 8 hrs. later say, c'mon kids, it's time to go to sleep.
