another attack by pit bull
Jesus fuck! Im interested to know, did she have 5 dogs living with her in a normally set-up house or did she have some kinda of kennel area to accommodate the dogs? Another thing im wondering is if any of the 6 dogs had attack wounds (from another dog) suggesting maybe one of them had tried defending Rebecca? Just thinkin..

Presa canarios are an impressive breed. PERSONALLY i don't think your average Joe should be allowed to own them, at least not in a city/residential area. And having someone who already has 5 dogs watch your Presa just sounds foolish.

Saving the animals, that's what she was thinking. There should be more people like her. You're seriously getting all over her dead shit for trying to do the right thing?

Brody, the dog that was euthanized by Burleson Animal Control

BURLESON, Texas -
A newborn boy died Monday night after being mauled by the family pit bull while police were responding to a domestic violence call at the home.

Three-month-old Rayden Bruce died just before 8:30 p.m., according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner's office.

Monday night, Burleson officers responded to a 911 hangup call that operators traced to the 200 block of Linda Dr.

There, police found a family disturbance in progress.

Cmdr. Cindy Aaron says the baby's father, Barnett Bruce, began arguing with the child's mother, Jessica Oxner, shortly after Oxner brought the child over.

Bruce's father, Richard Douglas, was holding the infant while the parents argued. Police were called after the argument escalated into pushing.

When police arrived, one officer took the mother's statement outside while another spoke to the father inside.

Cmdr. Aaron says the baby had fallen asleep in the grandfather's arms, so he went to put the sleeping baby on the bed and came back to talk to his son.

A short while later, the grandfather heard noises from the bedroom and went to investigate. That's when he found the dog, named Brody, had attacked the child.

The baby's father grabbed the child and ran outside, and police called paramedics, Erron said.

The baby was rushed to Cook Children's Medical Center in Fort Worth, but later died.

Burleson Animal Control officers euthanized the animal at a city facility on Tuesday.

Detroit Free Press - A 3-week-old girl was killed by a pit bull Thursday after her mother left her in a car seat on the floor inside a house on Detroit’s west side, police said.

Sgt. Eren Stephens said the newborn’s mother went to a home about 5:45 p.m. in the 7700 block of Stahelin and took the infant inside with her. The mother put the girl, still strapped into the seat, on the floor, not knowing there was a dog loose in the house.

The mother, Stephens said, stepped away from the infant for a moment, but when she returned the pit bull was mauling the girl. The baby was taken to a hospital, but she died of her injuries.

Police did not release the name of the girl or her 24-year-old mother.

The dog was removed from the home Thursday night and taken to an animal control facility.

The investigation has been turned over to the homicide division. Stephens said investigators will submit their reports to prosecutors, who will then decide whether to file any criminal charges.

"It seems like maybe just a tragic accident," Stephens said.

But yes, let's breed more of them.

They are not allowed to where I am, we have a ban on pitbulls, if they were born 2007 and prior you are allowed to keep them but they must be muzzled in public and you are not allowed to breed them anymore. Of course that doesn't stop people, I have seen a few what looks to be young pitbulls but not nearly as many as there used to be.

When we got out puppy I refused to even look at any dog with any putbull in it. We did get a rotti/shephard mix which at first I was concerned about. But Jethro is just a sweetie. A big goofball. I would never ever have a pitbull. I don't care how many people tell me they get a bad rap.

I know neighbors...and yes, it was horrific...the whole scene. Cops and firefighters bawling, neighbors out in their yards and crying. The baby was
horrifically injured.
Im terrified of Pit Bulls. I saw one snatch up a puppy and break its neck for no reason...horrific to watch blood go everywhere and hearing the bones in its tiny head crack made me go into a full blown panic attack.
My step mother was mauled by one nearly a year ago. Ripped her arm
and leg to shreds. Luckily for all of us and her, she was able to recover,
except for horrifying scars. She would be dead had it not happened close to a gate, so she could somehow get out. She was so injured she had
to drag herself to the car to get to a cellphone...and then wave down passing traffic covered in blood.
I fucking hate the breed. They were bred for this, its not the owners. Its the genetic imprint in their dna that they were bred to have.
Ban them.
You are missed...RIP Lady Cop

HOW VICTORIA WILCHER IS AN INDIRECT VICTIM OF MICHAEL VICK AND HURRICANE KATRINA?

Snip:
The social media universe became furious at KFC this week after an employee asked a 3-year-old victim of a dog attack to leave one of their restaurants because “her face is disrupting our customers.”

[Image: article-2658062-1EC4D51F00000578-84_634x496.jpg]

But it wasn’t KFC employees who broke down the door to Victoria Wilcher’s (pictured above) grandfather’s house and mauled the toddler until half her face was paralyzed and she lost the use of one of her eyes. Three pit bulls did that. (For discussion about the discrimination claim and KFC, there's a separate thread here: http://mockforums.net/showthread.php?tid=11249 )

Pit bulls make up only 6% of the dog population, but they’re responsible for 68% of dog attacks and 52% of dog-related deaths since 1982,

Another report published in the April 2011 issue of Annals of Surgery found that one person is killed by a pit bull every 14 days, two people are injured by a pit bull every day, and young children are especially at risk.

As pit-bull attacks become more and more common, they’re getting increasing attention on social media, but not always in support of the wounded children. In March, a Facebook petition to save Mickey, a dangerous pit bull in Phoenix, got over 70,000 likes. Mickey was facing euthanasia for mauling 4-year-old Kevin Vincente so badly that he cracked his jaw, eye socket and cheekbone. Kevin is facing months of reconstructive surgery, but more people were concerned with saving the dog than helping the boy. Mickey’s Facebook page has now become a social-media landing page to save other dogs that are considered dangerous.

“Any dog from any breed can be aggressive, it matters how it’s treated,” says Sara Enos, founder of the American Pitbull Association. And, as TIME reported in 2013, pit-bull owners all over the country are trying to rebrand the breed, insisting pit bulls can have a softer side when treated humanely.

But critics say that pit bulls are inherently dangerous no matter how they’re treated, because violence is in their DNA. “Why do herding dogs herd? Why do pointing dogs point? They don’t learn that behavior, that’s selective behavior,” says Colleen Lynn, president and founder of DogsBite.org, a national dog-bite-victims group dedicated to reducing dog attacks. “Pit bulls were specifically bred to go into that pit with incredible aggression and fight.”

But there’s another root cause of the rise in pit-bull attacks, one you might not think of: Hurricane Katrina.

Pit bulls are especially popular in Louisiana and Mississippi, and many of the volunteers responding to Hurricane Katrina found themselves saving stranded dogs. Most of the pit bulls they saved had been kept inside and behaved well around the rescuers, Clifton said, because they knew their survival depended on it. The dogs who were rescued were good pit bulls, he says, and “the real badasses, the ones chained outside, were drowned.”

Clifton said that many of the Hurricane Katrina volunteers, who had very little experience with dog rescue, became attached to the breed and involved in pit-bull advocacy. And that helped galvanize the pro-pit-bull movement in the wake of Michael Vick’s 2007 dogfighting scandal. That movement helped encourage more people to adopt pit bulls as lack of sterilization caused the population to grow.

“If you need a marker in your head for when pit bulls got out of control, it’s 2007 with Michael Vick,” Lynn says. Vick’s high-profile trial for dogfighting and cruelty to animals roused a growing sympathy for pit bulls, which led more people to adopt them and bring them into their homes.

[Image: screen-shot-2014-06-20-at-3-49-33-pm.png?w=560]

But what can be done about the growing number of pit bulls? Some say the best solution would be breed-specific sterilization, which would curb the pit-bull population and reduce euthanasia in shelters. Most dogs of all breeds are spayed and neutered — about 80%, by Clifton’s estimation. But only 20% of pit bulls are sterilized, partly because the population that owns pit bulls tends to resist the spay-neuter message.

Even PETA, the largest animal-rights organization in the world, supports breed-specific sterilization for pit bulls. “Pit bulls are a breed-specific problem, so it seems reasonable to target them,” said Daphna Nachminovitch, PETA’s senior vice president of cruelty investigations. “The public is misled to believe that pit bulls are like any other dog. And they just aren’t.” Even the ASPCA acknowledges on its website that pit bulls are genetically different than other dogs. “Pit bulls have been bred to behave differently during a fight,” it says. “They may not give warning before becoming aggressive, and they’re less likely to back down when clashing with an opponent.”

Opponents of sterilization argue that it can be difficult to determine which dogs are pit bulls, and that breed-specific efforts are unfair to certain dogs. “When you discriminate against a breed, you’re also discriminating against good dogs as well,” Enos said. Setter of Pit Bull Rescue Central opposes breed-specific sterilization because she says it’s ineffective, because the laws don’t target irresponsible owners. (HOTD: these are exactly the same arguments used by opponents of gun control.)

But Nachminovitch said PETA stands by breed-specific sterilization as a common-sense solution to what has become a human-safety issue. “These dogs were bred to bait bulls. They were bred to fight each other to the death,” she said. “Just because we’re an animal-rights organization doesn’t mean we’re not concerned about public safety.”

I didn't know where else to put this as the little girl wasn't attacked but the situation her mom allowed her to be in made me nervous even though I think much of the dogs behavior is determined by how they are raised. It's always in the back of my mind that an otherwise loving dog has been known to snap.

Damn, I would sure as hell never do that. Well behaved dogs for sure, had to have been a lot of work to get them there.

Even if they are extremely well behaved I still think it's stupid to have a small child around a pack of dogs. My newf and golden retriever got into a fight over food once, it happens sometimes even with good dogs. Now imagine if something like that happened with six pit bulls and she was in the middle of it.

I did and thought that mother was very foolish. She used her daughter to prove a point, she risked her daughter for her own agenda is how I viewed it.

Huh. Most people I know use dog bowls.

Those are some beautiful, well behaved/trained dogs in that video. That said, dogs have "off" days too and 4 year old kids don't always exercise the best judgment where dogs are concerned. Hopefully the mother has trained that little girl REALLY WELL about those dogs. What if she had reached over and yanked on one of their ears or something while they were eating? Stupid.

My poor ex mother-in-law. She lives out in the country, somewhat secluded a few miles out of town. She has a dog, 2 horses and a shit load of barn cats. She also watches my granddaughters during the week. They're always outside playing.
She called my boys out there on Wed fucking HYSTERICAL because 3 pit bulls showed up in her yard and annihilated 4 of her barn cats . Dead cats all over the front yard when they got there. She barely got the kids inside and they saw it all.
It happened again today. 3 more cats.
So now she's a prisoner inside her home because she's affraid to go outside. The cops won't do anything for whatever reason.
We know where they're coming from and the owners of the dogs don't seem to give a shit.
I think the dogs need to disappear quietly, but don't know to go about it.
I'm afraid if my son's shoot them, the people will hear it and start shit with their grandma. Her husband died last year and she has elderly neighbors across the road in their mid eighties. They're scared shitless too. I was thinking rat poison stuffed in some meat might take care of it. I have no fucking clue. The horses can't even leave the barn.
Any suggestions would be helpful.

That's so awful awful awful. I rarely say anything like this about animals but those dogs need to die. I am disgusted that law enforcement aren't doing anything. there are laws against this kind of thing! Dogs aren't supposed to be able to run willy nilly. Once they are on your property you should be able to shoot them. Check out the law on that for your state.

Get a restraining order, it works for animals too. The owners are responsible. Do that before you shoot them and it will be OK. I think.

I agree they need to die. I don't like the thought of it either. I know they can't run loose in town, but not sure about the country.
I'll check into the laws.
I pray they don't get to her horses.
I hope my granddaughters aren't so affraid of dogs now that they won't be able to come to my house for sleepovers. That will kill me inside. I love our sleepovers. Christ, I just got teary-eyed at the thought of it. :(

I won't ask what county she lives in but from the little bit of reading I did just now I see that there are breed specific laws out there and they pertain to pitbulls. It looks like your state is pretty tough on them so she may have a great deal of recourse.

This was the very first thing I thought about when I woke up this morning. Whatta horror for everyone who saw that go down :(
