OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY

This story is developing, so details may change as the investigation progresses. It was originally reported as an Active Shooter report, but turned out to be a knife attack.



A suspect attacked several people with a knife at Ohio State University this morning, sending eight to ten people to hospitals and prompting a campus-wide lockdown, authorities said.

The suspect was shot dead by police. Authorities on the ground believe the threat is contained, said a law enforcement official briefed on the latest information.

The people hospitalized have non-life-threatening injuries except for one who is reportedly in critical condition, according to officials at three local hospitals.

OSU Emergency Management has lifted a 'Run Hide Fight' and shelter-in-place alert and cancelled classes for the day.

Investigators believe the assailant also used a car at the beginning of the attack, and the entire attack happened outside near the Chemical Engineering Building.

OSU is one of the largest campuses is the country, with enrollment over 40,000. The suspect has not yet been identified and no motive is yet known.

A press conference was just held.

LE representatives indicated that the suspect intentionally drove into pedestrians outside of the OSU campus and then jumped out of his car and started slashing people with a large butcher-type knife.

According to LE, the act was intentional and likely planned. One of the first officers to respond acted quickly and took the suspect down within minutes.

The FBI is involved and the suspect's communication devices are being searched for possible motives or ties to terrorism.

Artan was reportedly a Somali refugee living as a legal resident in Ohio and a student at OSU.

He and his parents reportedly left Somalia for Pakistan in 2007, before coming to the U.S. a few years back.

Columbus, Ohio is second only to Minneapolis, Minnesota in terms of Somali refugee population.

TEXAS

A 21-year-old University of Texas student is accused of calmly stabbing four men, killing one, in an attack on the college’s Austin campus, police say.


^ Kendrex J. White, of Killeen, was taken into custody at the scene, authorities said at a press conference.

The stabbings occurred about 1:30 p.m. near the campus’s Gregory gym. White used a long Bowie-style knife.

Investigators have not yet determined a motive for the stabbings. They're interviewing White and about 25 witnesses.

^ Richard Collins III was an Army officer, the fourth generation of his family to serve the country. He was also a business major who was set to graduate from Bowie State University tomorrow.



He's dead because this fuckhole, ^ Christopher Urbanski, fatally stabbed him at the University of Maryland around 3am on Saturday.

Collins and a couple of friends were waiting on their Uber when Urbanski, reportedly intoxicated, approached and screamed, 'Step left, step left if you know what's best for you,' according to charging documents.

When Collins responded 'No,' Urbanski stabbed him once in the chest. He was rushed to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Urbanksi fled, but police found the folding knife at the scene and stopped him shortly after the victims' friends identified him as the attacker.

Urbanski, who did not know Collins and was not scheduled to graduate this week, faces charges of first- and second-degree murder as well as first-degree assault, police said.

He is currently being held without bail, with his first hearing scheduled for June 15.

Police are investigating racial hate as a motive after discovering that Urbanski was an active member of the Facebook group 'Alt-Reich: Nation'. It shows extreme bias against women, latinos, members of the Jewish faith, and especially African-Americans.

The victim, Collins, was a student at Bowie State University. The two friends/witnesses with whom he was celebrating his upcoming graduation were Maryland State University students.

The suspect, Urbanski, was also a student at Maryland Statue University.

The stabbing occurred on Regents Drive in front of the Montgomery Hall dormitory at Maryland State University, near a busy university shuttle stop and a gate that leads to the bars and restaurants on busy U.S. 1, police said.

Police say it was a random unprovoked attack. When an intoxicated Urbanski approached Collins and started shouting orders at him, Collins simply said "No". That's when Urbanski reportedly stabbed a knife into Collins' chest.

Follow-up to Post #132 - Hate Crime Indictment



Prince George's County State's Attorney Angela Alsobrooks announced a grand jury indictment against Sean Urbanski (pictured left) on Tuesday. Richard Collins III (pictured right) was stabbed to death on May 20 at the University of Maryland, days before he was set to graduate from Bowie State University.

Alsobrooks says authorities analyzed "lots and lots of digital evidence," including evidence from a phone. She says prosecutors are comfortable they brought enough evidence justifying the hate crime charge.

Urbanski became a member of a racist Facebook group several months before the stabbing, reports CBS affiliate WUSA9.

Alsobrooks says prosecutors took the time they felt necessary to investigate all of the evidence.

Urbanski has been held on a murder charge since the stabbing.

CBS News confirms Urbanski faces a maximum penalty of life without parole on the murder charge and an additional 20 years on the new charge of hate crime resulting in death.His trial is set to begin in mid-January 2018.

When he was killed, Collins was preparing to receive his diploma from Bowie State University and serve his country. He completed his ROTC training and had been recently commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army, where he expected to join the intelligence division.

The State's Attorney office appears to be saying just that Biggie, based on the evidence they've collected to justify additional hate charges.
