Any member of congress who attempts to support or rationalize today's official statement (via Tweet) from President Trump is a lost cause. I hope none of them are willing to go so low, but I won't be surprised if some of them do.
Here's Trump's statement:

The President is actually suggesting that the Justice Department should only charge politicians accused of crimes after considering and prioritizing loyalty to one party and the President over all else.
His suggestion is elitist, swampy, unjust, and again demonstrates total ignorance and/or disregard for the rule of law and the separation of powers.
Trump is referring to Congressperson Chris Collins (NY), who rescinded his re-election bid amid allegations and evidence of insider trading weeks back, along with Congressperson Duncan Hunter (CA) who was charged last week with spending hundreds of thousands of campaign dollars on personal items. Collins and Hunter were the first House congressmen to endorse Trump.
Collins was not under investigation during Obama's tenure, by the way. That's another lie, but it's irrelevant anyway.

Ben Sasse seems to be the only non-retiring Republican congressperson with brains and balls enough to state the obvious and push back on clearly undemocratic declarations and actions by the Executive branch. Good on him.

Yeah, but the rest of the country is held to higher standards. I have to conduct myself professionally in the work place, I can't go around calling people horseface when they piss me off.
