No one wants "open borders". Another fallacy from the fake president.

He lies to those that support him every time he addresses them and they don't care a wit. There is no low that is too low, whatever he says or does is acceptable to them. How do they maintain their own dignity & self respect in the face of that? They can't possibly think very much of themselves to tolerate that, no self respecting person would.

I think that the notion that these people are running for their lives is bullshit, not 1 single comment in any of the media that says these folks are being persecuted or even pursued.
The notion that they are all starving migrants is also bullshit, most of the pictures I see are able bodied and fat people.
No one is carrying backpacks of food, water, clothing, camping gear...Nothing
They so poor that they have new last generation cell phones
Not to mention the timing, I am supposed to believe some thousand "refugees" spontaneously decide "Hey, Lets walk to America where everything is free" right before the mid term elections.
That many people that upset with their own government could have organized there and made their gov change.
They are not interested in following any laws, just forcing their way in here and draging all their cultural bullshit with them.
I think this thing was organized and timed by the left to be exactly what it is going to be, a shit show intended to make Trump look bad.

The question no one seems to ask (and I am sure I have not the slightest idea why):

To apply for refugee status (such as if they are running from violence, war, etc) they are obliged to apply for refugee status in the first safe border they cross. EVEN IF we believe they are in fear, they have been offered and were obliged to accept asylum in Mexico and they CHOSE to flippantly disregard this.

So on that basis how are they now anything but an entitled, invasive, horde of economic illegal aliens seeking to leech off America? What does America owe them and why?

Oh for fucks sake. America was built off the backs of immigrants. I don't fear them and I don't fear they are going to take anything from me and the only people I ever see that have concerns about that are those found online.

Same here.  I don't fear or resent immigrants either.

I feel for the plight of those who simply believe the American dream is alive and well and are willing to travel thousands of miles on foot to escape poverty, crime, suppression....  Still, after enduring the long trek, only about 20% of asylum-seekers will be permitted to stay.

I do believe that immigration needs to be well managed and controlled though, for all the obvious reasons -- including keeping known violent criminals out.

Anyway, people who fear/vilify immigrants and 'others' are more common than you think, I suspect.  We used to see them express it primarily on-line because they could do so anonymously.

But, it's become more common to see and hear American groups/individuals openly and proudly railing against migrants and spewing misinformation about them over the last couple of years, in my observation.   Trickle down branding and ignorance.

Migrants and asylum-seekers are now being labeled 'invaders' by the most fearful, resentful and ignorant.

I do not think people generally are ignorant or resentful EVEN if they do not want people coming to a country illegally and leeching off a country. THAT does not require ignorance, resentment or fear to RIGHTFULLY point out that it is wrong AND illegal.

It would be dishonest to suggest otherwise.

That is why you are suggesting it HoTD. You are dishonest.

Ask those same people if they are concerned about people applying to be a citizen or waiting in line? Do you think most of them would say that was wrong or that they hated immigrants and wanted those rights taken away?
Do you think that they a concerned about a caravan of illegal immigrants who they know WILL contain some Middle Eastern folk unable to be easily vetted and perhaps ISIS linked, Definitely MS13 members and likely more than a handful of human traffickers and criminals (not all but some)? Are they allowed to rationally and without fear or resentment or ignorance say "NO! We get to enforce our border and CHOSE who we wish in our country and we would prefer to be VERY selective about who comes in and are NOT prepared for accepting the undesirables"?

A bedraggled nuclear family fleeing crime is a much easier group to have empathy for than a mass of unvetted 7000 migrants illegally forcing themselves on a country.

In Australia we have Nauru camps and refuse to let immigrants illegally muscle in uninvited. It is fucking rude to do so.

Eh, Mexico has offered them jobs and they refused. So onward they trek. From what I have heard they will be in tents. Hot miserable stinky tents, if thats what they dream about so be it. I am hoping Mexico lets some of them be set up in Mexico for the pregnant women. Now that statement should set a fire under someones ass.  Diablo

The moment they pass through Mexico and reject asylum they are no longer asylum seekers and refugees but are instead illegal aliens.

Nothing more and nothing less.

They were never really "asylum" seekers it's what they were told to say when they got here. It's a "loop-hole"

The latest tactic in the migrant fear-mongering by some Republicans and FOX is underway.

“Will Migrant Caravan Kill Your Child—With Disease?” -- that's the title of an article from this weekend in the right-wing magazine The New American.

FOX then, of course, tackled the question on-air yesterday with guests who claimed that non-existent and eradicated diseases could be brought to the US by the migrants. https://www.thedailybeast.com/fox-news-c...ed-in-1980

The same tactic has been used by the anti-immigrant right in the past. In 2014, they claimed that Central American migrants could cause an Ebola outbreak in the U.S. However, not a single case of Ebola has broken out in Central America.

"Mostly criminals', "criminal invaders", "pawns of Democrats and Soros looking to take over America", "a threat to children's lives"...

W. Bush and Obama were miracle workers, I guess. Somehow they managed to deal with large numbers of Central American and Mexican migrants crossing our borders without the country falling apart.

They managed to do so without separating migrant children from their non-criminal migrant parents, without demonizing the migrants, and without presenting migrants and asylum-seekers as diseased invaders operating under an evil plot to take over America devised by the opposing party and funded by a Jewish mega donor.

Maybe Trump should reach out to previous presidents for some advice. Or, he could just keep the fear-mongering conspiracy theories churning in hopes of driving more of his core base to the polls for the midterms.

This is what some websites say:

OQ:How many people illegally immigrate to the US per year?
Not one soul illegally immigrates to the USA per year.
There are about 50 million annual legal entrants to the USA from other countries, of which 4–5 million are for longer term stays such as students and temporary workers, and at least 95% are presumed to leave before their authorized stay time has ended or earn additional staus to remain in the USA permanently.

According to Quora

Lots of other ones too.

But there are about 12 a million illegal entrants that come in every year. What needs to be done is a more thorough investigation into their lives. If they do not want to do it in their country, the next best thing would be to hold them until they have been "inspected" not released into the wild across the states.

What exactly do you think they are going to take from you & your family? How are they going to affect your life?

Much like any criminal that disregards the law anywhere they are giving everyone the bird. That is all it takes. If someone robs a bank, kills someone, rapes them, gets a DUI, they are disregarding the law and they get the same treatment. I don't just reserve it for trespassers.

The law hasn't changed over the last two years.

It's not illegal to migrate to this country to apply for asylum, alone or in a large group.

The chances of it being granted are low, but there's nothing illegal about trying.
