I'm glad I don't live on a border town and it snows a lot. A couple good things from the snow is ski resorts and southerners flee. Let those states that sit on the border deal with it. Make some money, sell pooper scoopers pay more taxes.

The Pentagon will begin sending home troops sent by trump to the border as soon as this week. Most will miss Thanksgiving with their families but many should be home by Christmas. BUT WHAT ABOUT THE CARAVAN? Ohmaigawds. Disease. ISIS. MS-13. Rapists & killers. Hungry kids and exhausted parents. Oh the horror.

Would you stop being obtuse? HuhHuhHuh? You know goddamn well it was nothing more than a stunt, one funded by taxpayers. trump sent them there to feed his cult followers, not because there was a need. He made up a crisis and fed his cult.

The citizens of Tijuana don't seem to like them very much either. CNN will not put that news up though. They say "go home illegals go,home" As they chop at the wire on the wall. But in a peaceful manner.

It was not a stunt, a deterrent maybe, but not a stunt.

Mags, CNN and the other news outlets I've read/watched have all covered the news at the border comprehensively, including the resistance to Central American migrants by some Tijuana residents.
They also covered President Trump calling out judges for ruling against his latest attempt to scale back asylum by denying applications to migrants who enter the country between official ports of entry.
They covered Trump's criticism of Chief Justice Roberts for defending the objectivity and impartiality of judges' rulings too.
In addition, they covered Trump's claim that he's given troops at the border authority to use 'lethal force against the migrants', even as the troops are being phased out of their border patrol assistance deployment.
At present, all the news outlets are covering what appears to be the new Mexican government's agreement to detain migrants while their U.S. asylum applications are being processed.
However, the Mexican federal government has not been providing funding to the city of Tijuana where the 4,500+ migrants are camped out. So, mayor Gastelum has criticized the federal government's apathy, declared a humanitarian crisis, and is requesting help from the U.N.'s Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

Thy have had a few job fairs but no takers, also 80% of the caravan is dominated by young men 35 yrs old and younger. It is not filled with women and children and is in fact filled with young men. Hmmmm if they don't want jobs and they are not seeking asylum what could they want in the U.S.?

I read a fuck ton of news everyday, from a variety of sources, and I hadn't read that so I went looking for some information pertaining to that ^^^^^^^. The only places I read that the caravan is 80% young men was on FOX and an extreme far right site called Louder With Crowder.

Louder with Crowder "extreme Far right"? That is funny. He IS right wing but what makes him in any rational way "extreme far right"?

It's a FOX News claim that has been picked up and propagated by other right-wing outlets.
The composition of the caravan changes as some people drop out and others join in, so I don't know the breakdown of men, women and children. I'm not sure anyone can quantify it until the migrants are processed because the caravan composition is dynamic, not stagnant.
I'd be surprised if 80% of the migrants are young adult single men, however. What is quantifiable and verified: the biggest increase in migrants/refugees over the last few years has been Central American families traveling with children (which spurred the 'zero tolerance / child separation policy' debacle).
In any case, I don't assume that single male adults must be up to no-good. They face persecution and hardship and have just as much right to seek asylum as anyone else.
I do think most of the them will be disappointed though. If they're looking to enter the U.S. for greater safety and better base pay than in Honduras, Guatemala, Tijuana.........their chances of starting a new life in the U.S. are slim.
The Trump administration has severely limited the criteria for asylum; economic hardship, gang recruitment threats, domestic violence, etc.........are no longer justifiable claims for asylum. That will likely reduce the number of asylum requests that get approved (which is already less than 20%).

I had a lot of fun times partying in Tijuana in my late teens and early 20s, plus some really good pottery shopping trips since then.
It's been years since I've been there though. It makes me feel old thinking how worried I would be if my nieces road-tripped it down there and partied up a storm like we used to do a couple of times a year.
My parents didn't give a shit at all (which I deeply appreciated). They just enjoyed having the house to themselves. They were both cooler than I am.

So, the incoming Mexican government made an official statement today denying reports that it had agreed to Trump's request to serve as a sort-of holding station for Central American migrants seeking asylum in the U.S.
