Romney supports the Republican party platform and most of Trump's policies.
So, serious question Mags -- why do you think Romney is now a Democrat, because he's calling for character, honesty, and integrity?
Everyone knows he is a RINO , now you can be in the "in" crowd because now you know.

It just kinda weird to me and indicative of the divide in the Republican Party. It's not a surprise or anything that some Republicans consider any Republican who criticizes Trump a 'RINO'.
To me, Romney is a hard-core traditional Republican -- fiscally conservative, dedicated to promotion of American principles and leadership and strength around the world, pro-business over almost all else, rather hawkish, religious, against excessive corporate regulation, supportive of stronger border security and immigration reform (but against demonizing immigrants), etc.
Donald Trump was never established as a Republican before he ran for office and only embraces about half of those traditional Republican values.
The Republican Party, in my opinion, includes traditional Republicans (which Trump Republicans label "RINOs" -- though that number is shrinking) and Trump Republicans (who are changing the identity of the party around the President's personality and character).
It will be interesting to see how the Democratic party handles the influx of younger, more diverse, more progressive elected leaders. I think they'll likely experience a sort of identity crisis as well.

It's so weird to me that Trump is admired as a Republican and some kind of evangelical prophet when he was a Democrat and an admirer of Hillary up until a few years ago and his life is everything that most "good Christians" would despise. Romney on the other hand seems like a true, life-long conservative Republican and he's being called a RINO. Bizarro world.

There was barely any daylight between Republican and Democrat establishment. The dance was the same though. The Democrats would exert influence by pushing identity politics and Progressivism and Republicans will take the bait of shaming tactics and clarify and apologise for offence and buckle on everything Democrats ask for.
Trump doesn't play that way. Both sides hate him for it

I would love to debate the reasons why Romney is a dope with you folks but don't have enough aspirin to counter the headache that will come from the pig pile of deranged Trump haters. Besides you people have your own demons to exorcise in one Alexandria Occasional Cortex. I can see the imagined headlines now " Republicans revolt against Trump" probably from the Washington post, or some other rag that tosses its fodder at the feed station.

Well, I don't think anyone here is a pig or that the Washington Post is pigpen liner Mags. But, even if they were, I'd be surprised if Mock's Democrats or liberals would go to the mat in defense of Mitt Romney.
Romney's made it clear that he supports most of Trump's policies and that he will thus toe the Republican party line when it comes to Senate votes.
He's just planting a flag with his face on it atop the moral high-ground, yet again, in my opinion.
Maybe he wants to be first in line as a 2020 Republican challenger should the party need/support one? Or, maybe he's sincerely troubled by Trump's demeanor and character and he's trying to get other Republican senators to resist conforming to it, for the good of the party and the country?
In any case, unless your head is extremely sensitive, I don't think you'd need a ton of aspirin just to explain/defend your characterization of Romney as a Democrat, a RINO, and a dope when you supported him so fully in 2012 (though your turnabout isn't much of a mystery to me anyway).
Romney's positions and character don't seem to have changed much, if at all, over the last 7 years, to me. Then again, I thought Paul Ryan was solid and principled back in 2012 and I was definitely proven wrong on that one. I don't know if Ryan was a fraud back then or became one later. Doesn't really matter -- he's dust now.

Romney will toe the party line just like every other neutered republican in DC. I hope I'm wrong.
It's almost time for the swearing in. Finally. Checks & balances.

I don't know why tweets are such a pain in the ass to post.
They usually show up when composing a comment and in 'preview' mode, but don't show up when the comment is posted.
To avoid the frustration, I just copy the text and the photo and re-format/re-size using Mock's features.

Thanks HotD, that's the first time that's happened. That was actually a screen shot I had saved and loaded to imgur so I have no idea what the problem was.

Ah, I see.
I have terrible luck getting tweets to show up unless they're already saved as an image or embedded in the text of a news story (then I can just copy and they show up fine).
Anyway, our national debt is careening out of control very quickly and severely under Trump. I'm glad Ryan is out the door and the House is now controlled by Democrats.
Ryan and McConnell always wanted to cut the debt by cutting people's health care, entitlements and social security. I don't want to see that happen because it's wrong and fucked up, in my opinion.
The Republicans reduced tax revenue significantly, in a manner which primarily benefited the wealthy. Then, they increased government/military spending substantially. Of course the debt ballooned -- the results were predictable, but the self-proclaimed "fiscal conservatives" did it anyway.
Anyhow, I hope Trump keeps his campaign commitment to leave entitlements and social security alone. I believe he probably will (at least through 2020) -- people in rural areas, a large portion of his base, would be among the hardest hit if such programs were cut.

I used to think that mattered a great deal and that it would be the one thing that would keep those programs safe but I no longer think that way. In general, I think his base is willing to tolerate any decisions that trump makes, regardless that it may hurt them. trump is the hill they are prepared to die on. They believe in him and they don't care an iota about the constant bullshit and daily pathological lying that surrounds him.

Taking away health care and social security would be considered Trump "owning the libs" regardless how harmful it'd be to the very people gloating about it.
We need a good plague.
