I dont want to pay 2000 dollars to wash my clothes in 2 inches of water, but guess what, now I have no other choice because that's the way everything is made now. I'm glad my clothes smell like shit so I could save a drop of water. Meanwhile all the politicians are flying their personal jets daily and we dump thousands of pounds of garbage in the sea, but God forbid I have a regular old light bulb.
You can buy bulbs that last much longer today than you could have back in the day Sal, you just have to pay more for today's LEDs and energy-efficient bulbs. The longer life span is not a marketing lie or a moronic opinion. It's just true.
I don't know if the extra cost of those bulbs results in savings over several years or not though. It's possible that I'm paying 5 times more for certain bulbs that ultimately last only last 4 times longer, for example.
For me, it's worth it in any case because I like the convenience of not having to buy bulbs often or having to get up on the ladder and change out bulbs frequently.
ETA: Checked it out -- here's what I found regarding bulb life: LEDs are notable for being extremely long-lasting products. Many LEDs have a rated life of up to 50,000 hours. This is approximately 50 times longer than a typical incandescent, 20-25 times longer than a typical halogen, and 8-10 times longer than a typical CFL. Used 12 hours a day, a 50,000 bulb will last more than 11 years. Used 8 hours a day, it will last 17 years. https://www.bulbs.com/learning/ledfaq.aspx

Nothing is beneath those fricken republicans in DC. Whatta bunch of lying muthafuckas. I don't get why everyday citizen republicans are so willing to tolerate being lied to on a daily basis.

I just read that the House officially filed two impeachment charges:
1. Abuse of power
2. Obstruction of Congress
The filing claims that President Trump threatened the integrity of the U.S. election system and endangered national security in his dealings with Ukraine.
In announcing the charges, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi declared that the impeachment inquiry committee was upholding its solemn oath to defend the Constitution.
Voting is expected in a matter of days in the Judiciary Committee and by Christmas in the full House.

I really hope the Senate brings all to the proceedings, Shiff, with his phone records the whistle blower, Biden his son...............everyone but the Republicans are never as mean spirited as the Dems. and will probably just go through the motions. Time will tell but it may set-up Trump nicely for the election with Americans.

I wasn't arguing light bulbs, I was stating a fact that I don't like the new expensive lighbulbs and in my experience the old cheap ones they used to make lasted just as long if not longer. I have recess lighting in my ceilings and have to get a ladder out and change the son of a bitches so I think I know how long they last. 8 years my ass, I'm lucky if I get 8 months. HotD is the one arguing it because apparenty she is the lightbulb expert among everything else.

Pfft. You don’t have to be an ‘expert’ to agree (or quickly find out) that you can buy bulbs today that last much longer than in the past, if you don’t have your head up your ass or just want to be contrarian.

I've tried so many and they just burn out. I even had an electrician out to wire my new range hood and asked him what to use. Then I bought new light fixtures for the bedrooms and didn't notice the bulbs plug in and not screw in. Well guess what, they don't make those paticular bulbs anymore. Long are the days where you just buy a bulb in screw it in and it doesn't turn you orange.

I go to the dollar store and get 100w bulbs they last as long as usual and there is no change in my 90,00 light bill. My problem is getting people to shut the fucking things off when they leave the room. My son has taken over my cellar and leaves them on all night. Until I wake his ass up on Saturday at 5am and say "go shut the lights off" I think he is getting the picture.
I get 4 for a buck.

But now I have all these fancy lights that aren't meant for the cheap ones. I should have just kept all my parent's ugly ass lamps from the 80's. And the bulbs.

I use them in everything but the chandeliers and exposed decorative lighting.
They definitely last a lot longer than the bulbs from the 'good old days'. You and roo have both made sarcastic remarks about the taxes I've said that I saved between Obama and Trump. Do you think I'm making it up? Should I not care about 40 grand difference per year, do you think I'm lying? What? I don't understand?
It wasn't meant to be a sarcastic remark and I don't think you're lying Sal. I know that some people, including you, are expected to pay less total annual taxes for several years and some will be paying more (largely dependent on income levels and geography).
I guess I mentioned saved tax dollars in my post because it stuck in my head when you made a couple of comments about how discovering that you'll be paying less taxes meant you'd be backing Trump and the Republicans from there on out, regardless of other issues, and that Obama had been fucking you in the ass for years.
Why does it bother you that I'd remember and reference what you said regarding your political preferences/priorities in the Politics forum? It doesn't bother me, nothing bothers me. Except light bulbs maybe. "Invest some of those tax dollars you're expecting to save Sal and invest in quality light bulbs". I don't know, it just seemed to smack of sarcasm. But if you say it wasn't I fully believe you. Just like I believe your junk ass jive about light bulbs.

How much does leaving one light on through the night cost?

How much does leaving one light on through the night cost? Can't be that much. I once left lights on for 2 days. Electric bill still $50. Hell I left fans on overnight. Electric bill still $50.

If we're at your place, make sure to turn the lights off afterwards.
If we're at my place, you can leave the lights on. I have a whole lot more life left in my bulbs.

Never thought of it but it doesn't matter when a person leaves a room the light should go out, consider it my ammunition on the war on climate change.
