Gun crime in the USA

There has been another shooting, its on British TV.    In Britain if you have a break in, your car is nicked, or an assault on the street, its a coin toss if the police give a fuck.  It must depend where you live.

But if someone reports a gun, you will get several vehicles, lights flashing, sirens blaring in about two minutes, a gun in public is a serious thing.  You need a licence, and give a reason why you want one, and ownership is on record.   Having a gun is a big no no.  Not so in the USA, whenever ive been there i find your police cars intimidating, knowing theres a bloke in there who will shoot first and ask questions later.

I have seen videos of people running away from a policeman who is then executed.   No British copper carries a gun, they havee specially trained officers who have to sign one out.   Things are out of hand in the US, arnt they?

I once watched a British-produced sci-fi series about post-apocalyptic shenanigans, typical plot lines except they spent the entire series agonizing over this one bad egg and whether or not they should shoot him. They only had one handgun and maybe three bullets, and the guy clearly deserved to be shot, but it was almost comical how long they took to decide. That one shot was the climax of the entire season, and all I could think was, in the American version that would have happened in the opening credit sequence of the first episode.

No, I don't feel insulted, Piggy. I simply wondered if you thought that was a slam. Rational Americans know our country has a serious gun issue, we have more guns than people in this country.

There are guns in my home. I wouldn't feel compelled to use any of them unless I felt my life was in danger. It would really piss me off to have to shoot someone.

No, I wouldn't be tempted to shoot you if we were in the same room. Why would I be, because you snapped your fingers at me? Uh, no, I'd be more apt to laugh at you.

I don't drink, so the bottle of Jack holds no interest to me.

I don't know that our problem is a gun problem Moreso than a cult problem. We are in this surreal convergence of gun worshippers and people addicted to infamy. As long as the worshippers hold enough power to keep us from passing more stringent gun laws, the infamy cultists will keep seeing mass murder as a quick way to lash out/gain attention and notoriety.
Oddly enough, this phase of violent self destruction has happened a bunch of times throughout history to successful empires, right before they collapse in on themselves. One might conclude we are headed the same direction, although I would personally guess it will be more of a splintering than an utter collapse. World is much more interconnected than it was in previous examples.

Never happen as long as the worshippers are in control. Besides, the existing laws are deliberately toothless for the same reasons. The stupid and baseless argument that stringent identity and operating licenses might somehow prevent responsible people from owning guns. The worshipper crowd don't want accountability. They want the special boner they can only get from gazing lovingly at their piles of weaponry.

Lefties are faddists, righties are traditionalists, neither group is rational in terms of diagnosing problems and their causes, which precludes problem solving. Band-aids are the best they can come up with, and the nation has sunk into decline. If Democrats had the ability to solve problems equitably very few people would vote Republican, because contrary to what they think, genuine leadership earns respect, irrespective of party affiliation. Both parties demonize each other and have conditioned their constituents to vote on the basis of wedge issues that distract from more serious issues, like corruption, which most people ignore.

Any nation that has a hedonistic culture is destined for self-destruction because this world rewards the ability to overcome adversity, and hedonism is the result of philosophical illiteracy.

Interesting NPR piece about a New Hampshire group whose mission is to arm themselves and train with firearms, to defend against personal attack.  

AKA: self defense.

I listened to the audio, which goes into greater detail, than the written piece, and  . . . believe it or not . . . the NPR piece is pro gun ownership and carry.

In fact, the NPR piece does not criticize the motive of the purchasers or their method of carry.  NPR supports their mission and thus, Second Amendment rights.

Remember . . . NPR (their reporting) was one of the biggest critics of the NRA and the lack of current firearm legislation (gun control) . . . specifically by GOP politicians (the same group who wanted to defund NPR).
