When I got my first tablet I thought I'd never, ever actually read a book on it. I LOVE books, I like the feel of them in my hand, I like the way they smell, I like that there's some power in a book, corny I know, but I really like books. Fast forward and now I really love loading my library books into my iPad. Go figure. Do you read books on your tablet?

I’m using an I-pad in place of my pc that crapped out. I hate it, I’m such a damn procrastinator I should have gotten a new pc by now, desk or lap top but I didn’t.
I will soon.
I don’t use it to read books.

I like books also.
I started using a tablet when I was traveling. It was easy to go from a magazine article to a book or just coloring. I don't load a bunch of other stuff on it or games-it is an older style kindle fire.

Nobody mentioned Kindle? I prefer one of those to a tablet because it will last two or three books between charges, it has a very low current e-ink display and you can leave the backlight off if you're not in the dark.
And you can email mobi/txt attachments directly to it and they get laid out fairly rationally. The 7 inch screen is less adapted to pdf but the mobi or txt formats allow font changes on the fly, with automatic rejustification like you get from a proper Catholic confession. I'd hate to take paper books on holiday, they'd weigh too much.
I've not quite stopped buying paper books because you can buy hardbacks second hand and they're really cheap in the UK. But mostly I use the Kindle, my eyes can't focus on 9pt font in a book any longer but I have no problem turning the Kindle display to large-font.
I don't have a tablet at all. I have a couple of 14" Thinkpads second hand off eBay, they do all I need beyond book-reading because I run linux and that doesn't huff and puff and heat the room like Microsoft's alternatives.

I had a Kindle before I had an iPad. It was a gift & I loved it, but after about 18 months it just froze. I couldn't do a damn thing with it and Amazon customer service sucked ass. The most they were willing to do was give me a discount on a new one. Why the hell would I throw good money after bad, so I moved on to an iPad.

I like my kindle, I can read it in the dark and in bright sunshine, its easy to prop up for laying in bed reading and it's lightweight for holidays but... there's nothing like the feel and smell of a proper book is there.

I loved the newspaper when I was a kid. God only knows what I was reading, I just remember I enjoyed them. I can recall being about 8 years old in my dad's office sitting in a chair reading one and someone came in and commented on it in such a way I felt bad about myself. I never told my parents he made me feel like a freak for reading the paper. I haven't thought about that in ages. I used to read my Gramma's Agatha Christie books too.

It's sad that newspapers have gone by the wayside.
I couldn't imagine a world where you'd smack a dog or line a birdcage with a discarded Kindle or tablet.
And then there's the whole wrapping fish and chips thing, too.

Newspapers are going to be obsolete soon. I bought one the other day, because I was in between appointments, and left my tablet at home. 3 fucking dollars for a 12 page, mostly classified ads paper on a Wednesday. I could feed a dozen Ethiopians for that price.
