It means that the dems don't have the 60 votes they need to push through healthcare reform. My understanding is they might settle for a lesser version of the bill and try to vote it through before Brown takes office.

Also, if a Republican was voted in in a state where 2/3's of the voters are registered Democrats, it doesn't bode well for the Democrats (all over the country) in the next general elections in November 2010. We could see a complete swing to the right with Democrats getting voted out/Republicans in.
