Duchess, not everyone is in financial trouble because of irresponsible spending. Granted, a lot are. But sometimes people lose jobs, or have high medical bills, or any number of things that can derail their finances. I try not to judge people for having a hard time. Unless it's apparent that they just went to town with the credit cards and were spending way beyond what they could pay back.
