HICKORY, N.C. -- Hundreds of people lined up early Tuesday morning for a turkey giveaway in Hickory.
Walmart donated hundreds of turkeys, along with yams, dressing and cranberries, to the Christian Cooperative Ministries. The charity said the donation couldn’t have come at a better time, as the demand for its services has increased dramatically from last year.
The line of people waiting to receive the food stretched around the organization’s building. Recipients were pre-screened by Christian Cooperative Ministries to ensure their eligibility.
Rep. Patrick McHenry, who played an important role in making the event happen, helped hand out food at the giveaway.
