VAN BUREN COUNTY, MI —
The Van Buren County Sheriff's Department confirms that they have involved the Major Crimes Task Force in the case of Amy Sue Henslee, 30, a mother of two from Hartford who has been missing since Monday morning.
Lt. Bill Lux said despite the Task Force's involvement, that does not mean that a crime has been committed. He said investigators don't have anything to suggest foul play, a scuffle in the house or that an abduction took place.
About 30 neighbors, relatives and friends of the family have been interviewed by the authorities and interviews will continue Thursday. Amy worked at the Elder-Beerman department store from October of 2009 to September of 2010. Several of her former co-workers have been questioned.
Van Buren County deputies have done a "basic" search of the home and property where she lives with her husband, James, and two boys in Hartford. Those searches will now be stepped up. He mentioned Thursday that the department has "30 assignments to be handed out today," said Lux.
"Someone knows something about Amy's whereabouts," Lt. Lux said as he was addressing a room of reporters. "It's obvious she left the house with her coat and shoes."
Lux said that according to her husband, Amy is afraid to answer the door when she is home alone and doesn't normally leave the house. He also said there were no footprints in the snow leaving the home.
"Time is of the essence, because we don't know what we have here," Lux said.
