Julie Powers Schenecker ~Tampa mother kills teens for being "mouthy"

Tuesday, February 1, 2011

The Tampa Palms mother accused of murdering her two teenage children will spend 23 hours of each day in a medical confinement cell at the Falkenberg Road Jail.

Hillsborough County deputies brought 50-year-old Julie Schenecker to the jail after she was denied bond Monday morning.

"She is in confinement in the infirmary in a cell by herself, and she'll stay that way," said Col. Jim Previtera, who is the commander of the detention center.

Schenecker, who was visibly shaking after arrest, is suffering from an undisclosed medical problem.

Col. Previtera said she'll be looked after by doctors at the jail's infirmary. The Faulkenberg jail houses the largest infirmary on Florida's west coast.

"It's basically a small hospital," Col. Previtera said.

However, the medical facility at the jail has very little access to the outside world. There are no televisions or newspapers.

Previtera said Schenecker will be able to leave her cell for one hour each day during recreation time. That's when she'll get a chance to take a shower, use the phone or go outdoors.
