A statement from Betheny's family.
On Wednesday, Mehall's family issued a statement:
"As you can imagine, we are devastated at this news. Our family is attempting to come to grips with this awful situation. We are grieving personally, and also our hearts go out to the family of Cord Cox.'
"We are so proud that Betheny was actively pursuing her nursing degree from Bryant and Stratton College and recently received an Advisors Honor for Academic Excellence. She was looking forward to the next stage in her life and we were fully in support of her efforts."
" Betheny was committed to her community and an auxiliary member of the North West Ambulance District. Her largest commitment, however, was to family. Betheny was a dedicated and nurturing mother to her 4 year old son. Being there for him always came first."
"In her short 25 years, Betheny, made more people smile and touched more lives than most do in a lifetime. She lived her life to the fullest everyday and her enthusiasm for life was contagious."
"While we understand the media interest in this tragedy, we will not be planning to do any news interviews at this time. We are cooperating fully with the authorities on their investigation of the crime. The Ashtabula County Sheriff's Department should be contacted for any additional details. Thank you for understanding our personal situation and respecting our privacy at this most difficult of times."
