I don't think guns are the problem but they're definitely the more lethal weapon--which is problematic when they fall in to the wrong hands.
My training says that I trained more hours to defend against edged weapons than I did against firearms, they are actually more deadly than guns in a lot of ways.
I'm afraid you are a victim of the hype.
