HERNANDO, MS - A Mid-South preacher facing child porn charges. Hernando Police say Eddie Prince downloaded porn on a public library computer.
This may only be the beginning for Prince.
Police say more charges are possible in Edward Prince's case. They took computers from his home and church when they arrested him Friday night. Now, they're investigating to see if any more child porn can be found.
“We do not have any reason to believe that he's touched any children, that he's done anything inappropriate with any children,” said DeSoto County District Attorney John Champion. “But certainly that's something we're going to cont to look at right now.”
Police say what Rev. Edward Prince preached at Oak Grove Baptist Church was a far cry from what he's accused of doing at Hernando's First Regional Library.
“It was determined Mr. Prince had in fact viewed and downloaded child pornography," said Hernando Police Chief Mike Riley.
District Attorney John Champion says someone saw Prince looking at something suspicious on a library computer in December, but he wasn't arrested until Friday.
“Those computers get a lot of use at the public library, so whenever we have to forensically analyze a computer, it takes a while," said Champion.
Champion says he's seen a lot of these cases before, and it's rarely a one time occurrence. When something is done so publicly, people are just asking to be caught.
“When people have an addiction like he has, and this is nothing but an addiction, when you have that type of addiction, sense of sanity, sense of reason, typically go away," Champion said.
Right now, Prince faces one count of possession of child pornography. Champion says, if convicted, he could spend up to 30 years behind bars. He would also become a registered sex offender.
Prince was being held in the DeSoto County Jail Monday afternoon on $60,000 bond. His first court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday.
