A Plymouth couple and their two dogs died Monday night, and it appears that the man took his own life using a power saw, according to police and the district attorney’s office.
Family members asked police to check on the couple, who lived at 7 Farmhurst Road in Plymouth. When officers arrived at about 10 p.m. Monday, they found the man standing in the living room, according to a statement from Plymouth District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz.
The man then picked up the circular saw and cut one of his legs, the release said.
At that point, officers forced their way into the couple’s house, provided him with first aid, and did a “cursory search of the home,” prosecutors said. That’s when they found a deceased woman and two dead dogs, officials said.
Paramedics rushed the man to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Officials are withholding the couple’s identity pending next of kin notification.
An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause and manner of death on both of the deceased. The investigation continues.
