Get real. I can pretty much guarantee if your kids were in GATE, honor and AP classes, for the most part they WEREN'T in classes with a large population of ESL students (even though the school might have had a number of ESL learners).
Our school has a large number of ESL learners and my daughter is in GATE. To be blunt, her GATE class is largely white/Asian bread (with some exceptions, of course). Despite having great grades, my son didn't test in to GATE so he's in a regular class (for English, history, science). He's earning straight A's with almost zero effort while many of his classmates (ESL students, poorer students etc.) are flunking. There ought to be a middle ground for kids like him. Maybe not GATE but more challenging than what he's getting for sure.
