Okay, you guys, I am from the "D", and things are done a bit differently here. First of all, fireworks are not legal here, but starting this past Friday, it has already started; scaring the shit out of my dog, and having me damn near sitting on the floor thinking I might be dodging bullets. The fireworks are day and night.
On the actual 4th of July, the dope boys in my neighborhood do a little giving back to the community by purchasing what must be THOUSANDS of dollars worth of fireworks and having a fireworks display that goes from dusk to about 3:00 a.m. - nonstop. I don't know where they get the roadblocks from, but there are roadblocks set up on a one-way street that cover about a 5 block area. People of all ages come with their lawn chairs, etc., and actually, a good time seems to be had by all. They have someone with the big push brooms that sweep the streets ever so often. There are street vendors that sell pop, water, those little glow things, and no telling what else. Believe it or not, the police actually come through from time to time, and just sit beyond the roadblocks. I think they are keeping the peace or something. It is a tradition that has been going on for at least 15 years that I am aware of. It is a block over from where I live and my friends/relatives actually come to my house and we sit on the porch and watch. I bullshit you not.
