What do you think he should be doing? I'm totally missing why you think he's a victim for being forced to do his job...
I don't think he's a victim at all but Republicans can't agree on this issue, and neither can Democrats. What possible "plan" could he draft that would pass muster on both sides? I'm pretty sure that's what all these meetings have been about but again, hard left democrats won't accept any cuts to medicare and ss and Republicans certainly won't accept any increases in taxes (or as I prefer to say, cuts in tax loopholes or closing the Bush tax cuts).
Forget Obama, Pelosi and Boner couldn't garner the votes to pass any plan (at this point) so how could Obama pull some magical plan out of his ass that will suddenly satisfy both parties?
So we'll end up with some piece of shit (McConnell) legislation or something similar that basically stalls the whole process. The McConnell legislation is somewhat designed to push responsibility off on Obama and cause a few votes before the 2012 election that probably won't look good for Obama. By design.
In the meantime, we again lost the opportunity to make meaningful (bi-partisan) steps for addressing the deficit.
