I know LE recommends that parents (or any family members, in most cases) refrain from searching, but I don't think they can require family not to search. Tough call for the family, I'd imagine.
It's kind of a double edged sword. If they do search and they are not fully cleared, it looks suspicious if they happen to find evidence. If they don't search, it looks like they don't give a shit. I'd probably want to be out searching if it were my child, but pretty sure I'd follow LE's advice and stay home pacing and waiting for the phone to ring. Wouldn't want to be in the way or distract anyone if I had a total meltdown at the search site.
The training wheels - they just don't fit.
Why would someone plant them?
If someone was staging a scene, it didn't work because no one is drawing whatever conclusions the stager expected. Doesn't make sense.
If not staged, why the hell would an abductor remove training wheels and toss them by the side of the road? Makes more sense to me that the abductor would toss the whole bike (if dumb enough to take it in the first place). Maybe he/she/they did toss the bike and someone found it and thought it would be cool without the training wheels, removed them, and took the discarded bike innocently. Unlikely, but possible.
